In South Bend Indiana July 2 William Edwards of Sheboygan Wisconsin was found on Hugh Hertman Half Way House porch with a stomach wound. The bullet lodged in his lung. Edwards gave conflicting accounts of the incident claiming he was walking along railroad tracks when three men approached and opened fire.
Parkersburg West Virginia July 22 In a sleep dream Mrs Joseph Midkoff of One Mile Lincoln County hurled her infant from the bed to the floor causing injuries that proved fatal the following day.
Providence July 22 President E B Andrews of Brown University resigns in a letter to the faculty. The move follows a June inquiry by a trustees committee that cited him for his silver utterances and called him to account.
In Martin's Ferry Ohio tinworkers celebrate wage hikes prompted by tariff policy. Rollers gain 26 dollars monthly, heaters and doublers about 20 dollars, shearmen around 12 dollars, with some employees seeing total increases of roughly 25 dollars. The rise follows the shift from the Wilson to the Dingley tariff, after voluntary reductions earlier.
Fayette County Fiscal Court will meet to consider purchasing three turnpikes, Georgetown seven miles at 10000 dollars, Richmond fourteen miles at 13400 dollars, and Nicholasville five and a quarter miles at 875 dollars. Total tollable mileage after purchase would be thirty-four miles remaining on other routes, with tolls to continue until next year in Lexington Kentucky.
BELLAIRE July 22 A 14 year old boy John Pryor attempted to steal a ride on a Baltimore and Ohio freight near Barnesville Belmont County. His head struck a low bridge iron and was crushed, he fell into a gutter beside the track.
William A. Beatty, a Pennsylvania oil operator, died after being doused with vitriol by Edna Bernice Hitchens in Parkersburg on July 4. The case, kept quiet by authorities, links Hitchens to a turbulent career, wealth tied to oil ventures, and alleged forged paper activity. Beatty left an estate reportedly worth 100000 to 200000 for his eleven year old son.
Ten leading Odd Fellows of Washington Court House Ohio say they sighted an airship at 12 30 last night three miles west while returning from Jeffersonville where they had been installing officers. Two carriages carried the witnesses including J A Edge E C Hamilton H D Chaffin Humes Frank Craig Ed Whelpley Pavey Howard Mc Owen Lon Gibson and Al Thornton. The object moved northwestward at about a mile per minute with a waving motion and very bright light.
Jeff Cretan aged 27 and his 16 year old wife honeymoon at Wayfarers Rest in Louisville. After losing a job in Nashville they planned to return to Newark, New Jersey but became stranded. They arrived with their story and sought help from a charity headquarters.
A mob abducted Eph Brinkley near Madisonville and hanged him to a tree in front of Silvan Trouillas’s home. The act followed years of suspicion linking Brinkley to the Trouillas murder and alleged ties to Trouillas’s wife. An inquest found no evidence against anyone.
In Macon Ga on July 22 brothers of Dr W L Ryder who was hanged in Talbot County announce a statement to publish. They will present new facts from the trial and claim their brother was an insane helpless prisoner. They condemn the judge and mob and say they will seek justice for the lynching. DR C A Ryder signs. Also note President McKinley will vacation at Lake Champlain pending Congress adjournment with plans to visit Plattsburg and possibly attend Vermont National Guard encampment and Vermont Fish and Game League event.
W O Oliver, a man long sought for forgery, was arrested in Tiffin after being identified by W J Haines of Findlay. Oliver, who has a wife and two children in Cincinnati, faces jail and possible guilt questions as a sobbing letter from his wife pleads for his reform. The tale shifts to the Klondyke gold rush and Arkell map claims as Glave Wells and others return, seek to press claims, and plan to stakes vast holdings with Arkell vowing legal pursuit.
Oscar Williams, a Black man who assaulted a Henry County farmer’s daughter, was captured in Griffin and lynched from a Central Railroad train. Authorities moved him from Macon to Atlanta for safety but a mob seized him at Griffin and hanged him, ending a chase across four counties amid race war fears.
In Jacksonville Florida on July 22 James Sheppard a negro was seized after an attempted assault on Mrs Charles E Steele at Pilot Town island. Deputies pursued routed men and Sheriff Broward moved the suspect to sea for safety aboard the Three Ends to await trial.
Samuel Cayhoe, a farmer, sues for divorce from Margaret Cayhoe alleging cruelty. He says she drove him from the home, barred him from gathering crops, locked his clothes after his brother died, forced him to walk six miles to a funeral, and sold his land worth 3000 dollars. A temporary injunction restrains her from disposing of property or hindering crop gathering.
Chillicothe Ohio July 22 Coroner Hiram Streitenberger ruled Henry C Lufkins died from alcoholic poisoning. He found several residents involved in placing unduly large quantities of whisky in his hands to keep him intoxicated and to extract money while drunk. Multiple arrests are expected.
Five men and heirs of a sixth may gain possession of the Klondyke gold fields under law. One resident is in New York, another in Cincinnati, one in Indiana, and two in San Francisco. The sixth man lies buried on Africa’s east coast. The living plan to assert their rights and honor the dead. The 1899 Yukon expedition was led by W. T. Arkell with E. J. Glave and E. H. Wells among its organizers and explorers.

Warren Ohio July 2 heavy rain and hailstorm for an hour devastated area. Farmers report extensive damage to wheat and other crops, with assessments ongoing and fields left battered by the storm's aftereffects.
Charleston dispatch July 22 reports Governor extends Jerry Brown's respite to August 24. Brown will be hanged in Fayetteville alongside Albert Vokres, the Montgomery murderer.

Ten thousand school children laid flowers at Brigham Young’s monument and joined a parade in Salt Lake City on children’s day. Each school, led by a teacher, carried banners and Chinese parasols in a ten-division parade under Grand Marshal Nat M Brig ham with new floats added from yesterday.
VANCEBURG KY July 22 James C Miller of Valley eight miles SW of here married Monday to Miss Amelia Ferguson aged 16. Since the wedding he has fallen violently ill and will doubtless die. He is 72 and has fathered twenty children from four marriages. He left all his property to his child.
PRINCETON Ill July 22 William Cullen Bryant's brother marked his ninety first birthday today amid small town observances reflecting the poet’s legacy and family ties in the Illinois community.
