Harold Red Grange, famed football player, named as co-respondent in a cross-complaint by Charles A. Taylor in a Beverly Hills divorce case. Taylor alleges Mrs. Clarice Taylor formed infatuation with Grange, describing rides, a hotel-room rendezvous, and flirtations.

Canton Ohio July 21 Five men linked to publisher Don R Mellett were detained as police continued a long interrogation after the slaying last Friday. Suspects include Demos Moll Delfy and Chevaklas all tied to Peter Magraf who was arrested earlier tonight.
Witnesses from the South including a two gallon hat showman named Zach Miller testified in the Dwyer rium syndicate case in New York. They spoke of dealings with A M Eversole, owner of the schooner Augusta seized with liquor cargo. Leonard Kennedy testified on Eversole transferring his residence to Florida in 1925 and James B Jeffries described a Florida land sale. Harry G Andrews said he copied the Augusta charter four times for Eversole as he sought to dispose of the boat.
In New York on July 21 a small, eyetouched Russian hatmaker described how he and two accomplices have raided jewelers for $240,000 over eight months, including murders and felonious shootings. George Cohen of Chicago, a fugitive, hinted at dark disclosures linking to Chicago gin wars. Indictments planned tomorrow against Cohen and Solomon Brafman for the Maiden Lane robbery of $75,000 in unset diamonds.
County Prosecutor Charles Bell calls the Coney Island Jockey Club donation system gambling. He says evidence will be gathered at the track, sent to the grand jury, then to court for possible indictments. Deputies will monitor the opening day and may hold tickets as evidence.
At the Federal Penitentiary in Leavenworth Kansas a conspiracy by inmates to defraud the government of about 150000 was uncovered after a long-distance call led to charges. A fraudulent invoice scheme involved 125 fake invoices and forged signatures traced from canceled checks with help from a prison motion picture machine. A paroled prisoner in Denver and a clerk Jesse Greer were implicated as the investigation continued.
A brutal heat wave peaks across the Northeast and Canada with New York City at 98 degrees, Boston hitting a July 21 record, and multiple fatalities and many prostrations including in Cincinnati. Officials warn of relief with expected showers from the West.
Maryland swelters as Frederick hits 105 degrees the hottest in 15 years at the Frederick Weather Bureau Station. Keedysville reports 104, Hagerstown sees 1 2 degrees higher, Baltimore 102 the hottest since 1919, and Cumberland 100 as heatwaves grip the region. Sun spots blamed for extreme heat by Argentine meteorologist Martin Gil, who says solar disturbances may persist until 1928.
Chicago on July 21 reported new heat records as the Middle West sweltered. Weather forecasts promised relief by tomorrow night with cooler air expected after a surge of thunderstorms. In three days of extreme heat, authorities attributed about fifty deaths in Middle Western states to heat.
Senator Fess indicated the administration would push farm relief in Congress on sound economic lines but would not support price fixing. He cited tariff protection for eastern purchasing power and warned against agrarian movements and free silver analogies while noting banking interests and farm recovery amid postwar strain. Thomas Pearce a farmer near West Jefferson celebrated his ninetieth birthday by having his photograph taken while skinning the cat from a tree branch. The stunt was meant to show he remains as young as ever, with the scene reported from Columbus Ohio on July 21.

Four deaths and many prostrations were blamed on a blistering July heat wave that gripped Greater Cincinnati. Victims include John J. Harlow a 45 year old plumbing teacher. William Guenther 68 a stationary engineer. Arthur Blackston 22 a laborer. and Henry Thompson 43 who died after heat exposure. Recovery and cooling showers were forecast with relief promised to follow.
In a five hour struggle four campers reached shore with grim accounts of eleven companions sinking after their canoe capsized near Carnegie Point. Nine missing were aged 16 to 22 from Toronto, Peterboro, and Galt. Aboard were Brotherhood of St James Cathedral members heading to Coboconk for supplies.
Several passengers were slightly injured when the tender baggage cars and a coach of Chicago and Alton Train No. 26 The Nighthawk derailed and burned half a mile east of New Truxton, Missouri, en route from Kansas City to St. Louis. Three men were killed in a dynamite explosion at the Atlas Powder Company plant eight miles east of Joplin Missouri today. Victims include Thomas F. Dickson age 32.
