Two hod carriers John Stone and Bert Whalen died when a service elevator failed after they unloosened a clamp to wind the cable at the Hotel Metropole addition on Walnut Street. Stone, 25, was killed outright. Whalen, a night foreman with six children, died at the hospital.

Boston Rams Passenger Steamer in Heavy Fog Near New York
In dense fog off New York on July 22 a steamer named Boston rammed by an unseen ship.
