Rome July 20 report details a fatal collision at a station in which two men and two boys died and many excursionists were injured. Pope Leo XIII lies near death in the Vatican with vast public anticipation and a tense atmosphere outside St. Peter's as journalists and guards await news.

Three year old Owen Horner wedged his foot into an iron vent pipe beneath a new cement sidewalk on Wade and Baymiller streets. A crowd gathered as Fire Engine 29 workers, aided by about a dozen laborers, dug up pavement and cobbles for hours. Finally Owen lifted out his foot as neighbors watched in relief and the crews stood in stunned silence. Owen lives at 1526 Dudley Street and found the pipe serving Monarch Flat Building at 911 Wade Street.
Fire at the Enderes Brothers bowling alley on Coney Island last night caused the roof to collapse injuring two employees, William Moore and William Moss, who jumped to safety. Moore suffered a broken shoulder blade and internal injuries. Moss a broken rib. A third worker was overcome but revived by bystanders. The blaze began in the kitchen on the second floor and spread rapidly, aided by wind and wooden framing. Volunteer bucket brigades and local fire crews fought the flames. the building, valued at about 2000 dollars, plus six alleys, was destroyed with losses estimated near 10,000 dollars, fully insured. Moore and Moss were hospitalized. another employee, Charles Snyder, was injured by debris.
July 19 at midnight the Pope lies in a coma and doctors fear he may not recover fully. The crisis is deemed grave as exhaustion and long illness threaten his ability to improve, with experts awaiting further signs of stabilization.

Special Despatch reports in Columbus Indiana that a four year old boy, Martin Moorman, the son of Herman Moorman, was bitten by a pet horse this afternoon and lost his little finger. The severed finger could not be found and the incident was described as a tragic accident at home.
Huntington West Virginia July 19 Winn Vinson of Catlettsburg Kentucky was fatally stabbed by Gustave Epps. Epps was chased by a posse to Twelve Pole River where he reportedly drowned trying to swim to the opposite shore after shots were fired and he lay badly injured.

James Sommers 40 Cannellsburg with right leg crushed. Joseph George 48 Loogootee with right ankle broken. Clara George 14 left leg fracture. Carl George 10 contusions of feet and legs. Sol Zehrburger 55 Shoals with facial lacerations and bruising. Elkins Zehrburger 15 contusions of face. Frank Curry 28 Washington with ankle sprain. Charles Kidwell 28 Washington with contusions of right leg. Gus George 8 Washington with bruises to shoulders and face.
A Cincinnati Southern and Baltimore and Ohio Southwestern excursion trains collided at Grand Central Station. Over twenty injured, two feared dead. Details blame involves a colored flagman and a signal miscue as cars crushed, passengers pinned, and hospital visits rise.

A companion, Al Rosenswite, escaped unharmed after being knocked away and finding himself under a passing car. The two men have not yet been identified.
