Three Young Men Drown in Ohio River Near Freeman Avenue
Three men drowned after cutting capers while swimming at the Ohio River foot of Freeman Avenue. One identified as Charles Schmedley of 239 East Third Street. Ambrose J. Reusenzehn and Robert Wilson were the other victims. Clothing and a pay slip linked Reusenzehn to Union Gas & Electric and Lodge & Shipley Machine Tool Co. Both bodies not recovered by midnight.

Drowns When Boat Upsets After Barage Collision
Charles Schmedley and George Hicks were in a flatboat on the Ohio River near Central avenue when a line of Marmet coal fleet barges struck and overturned them. Schmedley drowned. Hicks was pulled from the water by a gasoline launch and taken to the police station to report the accident.

Patrolman Shot in Canal Clash With Bathing Boys
Patrolman Long, off duty, shot and killed 17 year old William Deuser after a crowd of bathers and boys confronted him near Race Street canal. Witnesses say the officer was threatened with a knife and mobbed, while others claim he warned them and acted in self defense. Deuser died at City Hospital. Police report Long borrowed a revolver and fired as he was boxed between two crowds.
