Locust Valley, July 13 AP John W. Davis Democratic nominee for President says Senator Walsh of Montana is confident Democrats will carry the Middle and Northwestern states despite La Follette. Davis plans West speaking tour while spending Sunday at his country home attends St. John's Church greeting neighbors and friends. Officials and neighbors include J. Pierpont Morgan and William J. Tully. church features Lorimer carved pews and Davison memorial organ. The mayor of Glen Cove invited Davis to lay Elks Lodge cornerstone but he declined public appearance.
Governor Charlies W. Bryan of Nebraska arriving in Chicago after the national convention renews his stance on government control of industries to ensure a square deal. He cites Lincoln coal yard and gasoline price reductions as examples while cautioning against Bolshevism and third parties.
John W. Davis, Democratic nominee for President, is regarded by Tammany Hall as a West Virginian though he announced Long Island as his legal residence. A large banner at the Wigwam of the organization on Fourteenth Street proclaims him as of West Virginia. Davis has been registered to vote at Oyster Bay, Long Island since 1922 after serving as Ambassador to Great Britain.
W L Kelly a 59 year old Chicago bridge builder and president of the Kelly Atkinson Company died at General Hospital from a skull fracture after falling through a cellar grate on West Third street near the Burkhauser Hotel Saturday night He directed bridges for the Big Four Railroad and later for the Great Northern Railway He lived at 5219 Washington Blvd Chicago and is survived by his widow and six children funeral arrangements to be held in Chicago.
Four federal prohibition agents including Max Overpeck were arrested during a raid on a crowded West End restaurant on Lake Pontchartrain. They were jailed briefly, paroled, and ordered to appear in Police Court on charges of disturbing the peace and disorderly conduct.
Rev. Oren Van Loon of Berkley Michigan is recovering after eleven days missing. Doctors report branding with K K K on his back and memory loss. his wife suspects drugging and torture. Detective Hessmer says clues are elusive as memory returns in fragments.
A vehicle carrying Cincinnati residents Mrs. Thomas J. Meeker and others collided with a Frechtling Dairy Co truck near Seven Mile. Meeker and Mrs. Shannon were seriously injured, Moore suffered a broken collarbone, and all were hospitalized in Mercy Hospital. A separate Sharon Pa accident claimed Frank Feinkovitch who died after his car hit a fence.
Mrs Elsie Martin of Cleveland, 32, was killed when her husband Isaac R. Martin 38 a real estate dealer and two other women were seriously injured in a collision with a second car at a street crossing in Tiffin Ohio. The other car was driven by Miss Gertrude Steckel Newark New Jersey.
In Columbus Ohio on July 13 a 7 year old girl Maxine Pilley died en route to a hospital after being struck by a machine driven by William J Ethell Edward Johnson 10 died in hospital and the vehicle's driver remains unidentified. In Butler Indiana three people were killed at a railroad crossing when their car was struck by a New York Central train. The victims were Mr and Mrs Charles P Latt both 52 of Montpelier Ohio and Louis Tringle of Montpelier.
Youngstown Ohio reports Robert Laney 32 died in an automobile collision today. Six others from Youngstown were injured: James Spencer James McPhillips Edward Janis Mary Janis A Dyer and Francis Finn.
A fifty foot Pennsylvania Railroad box car jumped a bumper and crashed into the Reliable Stove Company office on the second floor in Cleveland. Eight sales staff were present but unharmed. General Manager H. C. Fritz declared the building a total loss with damage about 40000 dollars.
Policemen Brustel and Dickroer arrested William Etheridge, 30, of 3344 Bevis avenue, and Hyman Noel, 31, of 630 West Court street, after their autos collided head-on near Fernbank Dam on Wilkin's Short road last night. Both cars were damaged but no injuries reported. Each man charged with reckless driving.

A touring car found two miles east of Canton, near Asheville, N C, was identified as belonging to Major Samuel H McLeary of the United States Coast Artillery. An officer uniform and two suitcases were in the auto. McLeary, last seen in Raleigh July 2, had been traveling from Norfolk to Fort Moultrie and is missing. Authorities and the War Department are conducting a search. Governors Neff and Morrison involved.
