Dr. Frank R. Starkey of Philadelphia claims a serum from glands of animals cures numerous diseases and ages, rebuilding vitality and even character. He cites tests across ages 20 to 86, with demonstrations in 1908 and praise from The New York Medical Journal.
The Senate voted 40 to 34 to push forward the Panama canal bill as unfinished business. State department officials defended its handling of Britain’s protest, noting arbitration at The Hague would be difficult and unlikely to produce an impartial outcome.
Patrolman Thomas W. Weaver pleaded guilty to arson at a preliminary hearing in Michigan City and was held to the circuit court in $5,000 bonds. He confessed to starting a large store fire last Tuesday saying he was seized by an uncontrollable urge to ignite a blaze.

The Senate voted 55 to 28 to unseat William Lorimer of Illinois for bribery taint in his election. The dramatic removal ended his public life as tears filled galleries and Lorimer vowed to fight to clear his name, possibly seeking reopening or a return to the Senate.
Detroit born General Henry M. Duffield adjutant general of the Twenty third brigade Army of the Cumberland and commander of the Second Army corps in Cuba during the Spanish American War died at his home in Detroit after illness. He led troops in the Santiago campaign and helped establish the Chattanooga National Cemetery. He served in the Civil War and later held national ceremonial roles and U S diplomatic commissions.
A violent cyclone hammered Michigan and Wisconsin early today, killing two people including Mrs. E Printz of South Kenosha and Charles Gibbs of Grand Rapids. The storm toppled houses, unroofed buildings, injured many and caused extensive damage, especially in Grand Rapids and Racine with lightning strikes, railroad disruption, and frantic rescues.
