Juarez dispatch reports Rebel forces retreating to a small garrison of 200 as government rail lines face two months of repair. Rebels mass southwest along the Northwestern to invade Sonora while General Orozco denies disaffection and claims the revolution will triumph.
Washington reports that absinthe imports and interstate commerce will be banned after October 1 under a pure food ruling signed by Secretary Wilson. A Prohibition party convention adjourned after wrangling over a name change proposals. A. J. Orem of Massachusetts pledged funds to back a new name Progressive while others protested the suggested Conservation party. The session also debated shifting national committee representation to one member per 5,000 prohibition votes.
Detectives pursuing the killer of 12-year-old Julia Connors say they have the suspect in sight and expect arrest by midnight tomorrow. They focus on Nathen Swartz of 3970 Third Avenue, who disappeared after his family moved from their apartment. Swartz was jailed in 1910 for luring a girl to an office and mistreatment, released after 18 months for good behavior.
In St Paul Minnesota a state supreme court ruling states that a person who tries to rescue another in life danger and is injured may recover damages. The case involved John Perpich and Martinovich at the Leetonia mine where two fuses lit and one exploded, killing Martinovich and injuring Perpich. Perpich won a lower court judgment.
Petitions filed with county commissioners by wet and dry elements to hold a Rose county option election on Aug 3. Hancock county voted dry in 1908 and has since seen arrests for unlawful liquor sales. Local liberal league backs the wets to boost business in Findlay.
