In Galion Ohio a dispute over two feet nine inches of ground along the C C C and St L track led Reister & Co to sue after steps built on railroad land were ordered removed. The railroad tore them down, an injunction was sought, and damages of 200 dollars are claimed for contempt.
Loveland Ohio July 12 council opened with Mayor J R Hindman presiding. A committee resolution demanding the mayor's resignation was read and fifteen signatures attached. Casey and Crooks withdrew from the mayor's bond while McMahan warned of legal action if a non veteran were appointed night watchman.
Wheat growers of Kentucky met at Lexington to discuss holding their crops until price improves. A resolution was adopted urging county organizations to unite into a single state body for mutual protection.
Percy Rowan city recorder disappeared after boarding the Eastbound C&O train to an unspecified destination. Financial trouble surfaced with a 17000 deficit in his accounts, later covered by his father former State Treasurer Colonel J M Rowan.
Youngstown July 12 Chief of Police McDowell said evidence had been secured showing Thomas Edmonds under arrest shot and killed Conductor John Haley. The defense will be insanity with a sister who died insane and a mother in an asylum five years. Edmonds to be arraigned tomorrow.
Chicago. July 12. Otto Gresham son of the late Walter Q. Gresham and a Chicago lawyer was jailed at Harrison Street Police Court for interfering with an officer in duty. He and James Higgins were arrested near the Gresham home after Higgins asked about proper procedure and Gresham advised reporting to City Hall.
Walter Baker and about a dozen locals watched snow fall near the Indiana Iron Works just south of Muncie during a cold drizzle. Two days earlier the thermometer read 163.
The coal strike reduces Pittsburg fuel in the market and threatens a water shortage in Delaware. Pumping stations lack coal, pushing local retail prices up to 2.25 a ton in the city and 2.50 on the hills. Dealers canvassed to advance prices. most agreed, few opposed. No river sales reported and Kanawha operators sought 0.50 a bushel afloat. overall market activity limited to out of town sales.
The Columbus Retail Coal Dealers' Association met to raise coal prices from 22 to 25 and warned of another hike if the strike continues. Members reported coal consignments being seized by railroad companies, leaving them nearly out of stock.
Pittsburg reports coal selling at 180 dollars per ton, up 150 percent since the strike began. River operators discuss hoisting coal to lake freight cars to tap southern markets while miners threaten work stoppages if demands to raise rates are not met. Keeling and Castle Shannon mines resume at sixty nine cents, producing several hundred tons daily as officials weigh next moves.
In Cleveland on July 12 1930 small dealers face coal shortages while big operators claim enough West Virginia coal exists to last till winter. Dan Hanna of M A Hanna Co says no severe stringency while WV mining continues. Ohio railroads reportedly refuse WV coal though officials deny this.
Delaware Ohio July 12. The pumping station is nearly out of coal and only one firm in the city can supply fuel. Officials warn a water famine looms if coal cannot be obtained soon.
Rudolph W. Papendieck, manager of Seelbach's Hotel in Louisville, was shot at Sixth and Main while aiding in a burglary arrest. A burglar, after taking a pistol from an officer, was fired on by officers and bystanders. Papendieck was struck in the side as he returned fire. Doctors fear for his survival. the suspect escaped.
Ike Shawhan and Will Stuart were arrested on highway robbery charges after robbing George F. Weeks and Ottie McGarvey on Richmond pike. They also fired five shots at Gatekeeper Burgin and fled toward Tate Creek pike before Charley Tipton escaped. Stuart confessed to the crime.
J T Duffield longtime Roane County educator was arrested at Spencer during the closing session of the teachers institute for forging an endorsement on a note. He had been assigned a position for the coming year and was taken off the train as officers arrived, with over a hundred teachers gathered at the station.
The administration moves to keep Hawaii under U S control with possible landing of Marines and hoisting of the American flag at first sign of aggression by Japan. Rear Admiral Beardsley will receive authority and ships including the Oregon Philadelphia and Marion to enforce the plan as needed.
Tramps knocked L E Weyler of Olney Illinois from a box car and robbed him of 150 dollars while he rode to visit relatives near Wauseon Ohio. One tramp named C HK Clatty was arrested.
The Harris murder trial in Lexington centers on Jacob F. Harris accused of killing Thomas H. Merritt in Gratz Park. Damaging evidence includes a Lancaster Hotel register showing Merritt and a Lexington woman in Room No. 7, plus claims that Mrs Harris locked her children at home while out late. A note found in Merritt's pocket reads I love you better than everybody. Local rumors swirl about the alleged motive involving the wife at the center of the case.
Lightning struck the state militia camp at Peekskill causing collapse of the Y M C A tent. One soldier was killed Corporal J J McDonald of Company A Twenty second Regiment New York died. A dozen men were knocked unconscious with several in serious condition.
Hayes Mack a 22 year old black man boarded the Lexington and Eastern west bound train at Winchester and paid fare to Wyandot. Detective Joe Johnson seized him as a possible suspect in last Monday night’s attack on Mrs. McCann and brought him to Lexington Jail. His face bore scratches and he matched only a meager description, and he is likely to be released.
Fire insurance rates in Wisconsin likely will be sold by each company after today. The Field Men's Club with the same membership will meet tomorrow to devise an understanding and agreement on rates that will not violate state law. It is not expected that an agreement can be reached.
In Mansfield Ohio on July 12 the trial of Hollis Pate a negro tramp charged with the June 3 murder of Officer Sellers at Shelby began with eight jurors accepted.
Augusta Nack and Martin Thorn, alleged Guldensuppe murderers, were arraigned in general session to plead to the indictment. Both denied recognition, entering demurrers challenging the court’s jurisdiction as the crime allegedly occurred beyond New York County. The demurrer is set for July 21.
In Chicago on July 12 the ex Bank President Charles W. Spalding was on trial for embezzlement. Professor W. Shattuck of the University of Illinois testified that the general fund contained money to honor warrants drawn up to the date they were hypothecated by Spalding. The defense had argued Spalding hypothecated endowment bonds to raise funds for warrants.
The First Regiment reached Presque Isle at 7 am and is quartered on the island. A midday storm toppled tents and damaged a tree in front of the Quartermaster Hopf’s tent. Rainfall reached 1.14 inches in twenty minutes. The Pastime steamer was delayed. Hopf’s son injured a foot while bathing. Major Kennedy and Lt Fleischmann were absent.
W S Osborne a leading rice planter of Calcasieu Parish committed suicide at his Iowa Station home on Saturday evening because his rice crop failed. He was born in Dyersville Iowa and leaves two sons in Dyersville and Runnels Iowa.
A sail boat carrying five people capsized on Eagle Lake Indiana during a July evening. Two occupants drowned and four were rescued after a severe struggle. The dead are Georgia Coulter daughter of Prof. Coulter of the University of Chicago and Bertha Yarnell daughter of Edward F Yarnell of Fort Wayne. The remaining passengers were John G Coulter Miss Eunice Munson and William Grey of Chicago, with Miss Coulter’s body not yet recovered.
Paris reports a near government defeat in the Chamber of Deputies as the ministerial plan to postpone the direct taxes bill draws opposition from Rightists. A fresh division looms if the same split recurs when the autumn tax renewal bill is brought up, risking a ministerial downfall before Faure visits St. Petersburg.

The third corpse is Joe Broehin the elephant eared man a circus freak whom they murdered.
William D. Johns prominent Martinsville architect hanged himself this morning at age 64 leaving a widow and six grown children. Despondency from illness cited as cause.
Detroit July 12 Ohio delegation sets up headquarters at Hotel Cadillac with McKinley image. Hanna expected to arrive. Crawford backed by Kentucky sentiment and Crawford, Chapin, Oma ha slate forming. Pollasky has dropped out as Kentucky contingent arrives.

Miss Agnes Judson daughter of the Stratford Point lighthouse keeper saved two Boston men after their boat capsized off Stratford light. She swam from the lighthouse, threw a rope, and helped pull Chase and Edward Howe from swift water. her father and brother aided the rescue and brought all aboard safely.
Thomas O Hares absence as secretary of the State organization of the Ancient Order of Hibernians has alarmed friends. He travels for Home Insurance Company and left June 29 promising to return. Near Hadley yesterday John Martin and Virgil Belcher rode in a big r on horseback and after a few drew their knives and fought. Both were badly wounded and later were taken to a hospital.
