Undertaker William Johann of College Point rowed in Flush ing Bay on Friday and hooked a body. He brought the man ashore and to the morgue, and the remains were identified as W. J. McCann, 34, of Floral Park, Queens. McCann lived alone and relatives are not known. Johann holds the body pending contact with kin.

Frank Ohl, 44, of 3264 Beekman Street, died at General Hospital after a hours long collapse. Doctors including Acting Coroner Dr. O E Cress and Dr. Benjamin Feldstein consider lung pneumonia, heart trouble, or subdural hemorrhage as possible death causes while a post mortem is ordered. The victim’s identity was confirmed by a card and Charles Crowe of 1696 Hoffner Street. The scene involved foam at the mouth and a suspect’s dog bite history.
Frank King a 69 year old former mail carrier who rode horses for 42 years between Falmouth and Harlinsville Kentucky was fatally struck by a westbound Crosstown streetcar at Fifth and Columbia in Newport at 6 10 last night He was taken to Speers Hospital Dayton with a probable skull fracture and internal injuries as his son John King a clerk at 812 Monmouth Street Newport was in the grocery purchase scene The motorman was William Class and the conductor Henry Kelly Magistrate Alfred G Maybury exonerated Class after witnesses were spoken to King had retired four years ago and lived with his eight children He was married twice survived by three sons Bay Floyd and John and five daughters Addie Watkins Erma Greeley Maude Howard Goldie Doggett and Katherine King

Five year old Thomas Richardson died in an abandoned cistern near Mt Washington after playing with makeshift ships and forts. General Richardson says the boy could lift the cover. coroner Dr. O E Cress ruled accidental drowning due to fainting spells.

Police report a daytime assault on the Central Bridge ended with multiple injuries but not serious. A warehouse fire at 419 George street caused about $5,000 in damage from extreme heat.

A worker wrestled a revolver but was shot, and a railway worker and a gamekeeper were killed as workers and police intervened. Three wounded are not expected to survive.
Dayton Tennessee July 11 reports say William Jennings Bryan and Clarence Darrow push the Scopes case by arguing the Tennessee statute requires judging both halves of the offense before finding Scopes guilty. Darrow says lay jurors lack expertise on evolution and calls for expert testimony to guide the jury. Bryan insists the trial tests the clash between evolution and Christian faith.
Dayton Tennessee July 11 with the defense silent the state pressed to present witnesses on evolution versus the Bible as William Jennings Bryan led the prosecution. Attorney General Stewart defended the law as clear and aimed to protect religious instruction for Tennessee children amid objections to outside expert testimony.
Charles Ponzi, found guilty in February of four indictments charging larceny from investors in his international postal reply coupon scheme, was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Sisk to seven to nine years in state prison. A stay was granted to allow appeal to the Supreme Court.
Chicago July 11 A remonstrance by James Madison from 1785 may be used to defend John T Scopes. Professor Marcus W Jernegan says the document’s relevance lies in Madison’s warning that taxation for teachers of the Christian religion threatens civil liberty and democratic rights.
Clarence Darrow for Scopes charged Tennessee prosecutors with evading facts by blocking expert science religion testimony. He argued many scientists are both Christians and evolutionists and that banning such theories would suppress astronomy geology and multiple biblical creation accounts. He noted jurors know little of evolution and highlighted diverse religious beliefs as factors.
