The senate race ballot here lists five candidates in order of ballot position for the upcoming primary. Voters will choose their preferred contender among the five as the contest moves toward the party nomination.
Bobby Jones of Atlanta wins the national open championship at Scioto Club with 293 strokes, finishing one ahead of Joe Turnesa who carded 294. Jones sealed the victory with a birdie four on the final hole before a crowd of about 6,500 as he added another major title to his storied career.
Striking Interborough subway workers plan to spread the walkout to the Brooklyn-Manhattan system, threatening a city-wide tie-up across subway, elevated, and trolley lines. Three hundred pickets moved to Brooklyn while emergency crews kept trains running and replacements prepared.
Navy records reveal enlisted Marines assigned to Lake Danmark Station met tragedy after a second explosion. The detachment under Capt. Burwell H. Clarke reported missing, with injured listed from Dover General Hospital including Casmer Kenhigh and Samuel Boggs among Depot personnel and several civilians connected to naval depots and Picatinny Arsenal.
At Dover New Jersey on July 10 a series of blasts at a navy munitions depot killed an estimated fifty to seventy five people and left hundreds injured. Rescue crews faced safety lines as flames and smaller blasts hindered entry amid fears of spread to Picatinny Arsenal.

Complications from a January ice fall downtown are believed to have caused the death of Elliott Hunt Pendleton prominent Cincinnati attorney and pioneer family member at his home on Madison Road. Pendleton born in Cincinnati in 1860s attended Chickering Institute and Harvard and was a trustee of the Cincinnati Art Museum and former UC trustee. He leaves a widow and two children with two grandchildren in a pasages noting his famed lineage including Senator George H Pendleton.
Interborough power men failed to shutter any of the twenty four stations or halt the two main power houses. Transit Commission reports show no slowdown and an uptick in rush hour subway service by four percent despite the strike. Negotiations show a hitch as talks continued.

Coroner Handley reported the season’s first heat death as store worker Bertha May Booker, 5 2175 Gilbert Avenue, died from acute dilation of the heart after heat exposure. Another victim, Lucy Fisher, 45, 1420 Vine Street, fainted on a streetcar but recovered at General Hospital.
Heat claimed its first victim in Conneaut Ohio Leon E Smith a 49 year old man who collapsed after temperatures neared 92 degrees. Across the East a Turks bath like heat produced eight deaths and many prostrations with New York City leading the toll including a fatality from a tornado like storm in the Bronx. Philadelphia and Elizabeth New Jersey reported deaths as hot weather spread inland. A severe thunderstorm caused damage in Vermont and upstate New York with drownings noted near Poughkeepsie Albany and Cohoes. Baltimore also faced record heat with a death tied to ice water in a copper plant worker as temperatures hit 98 degrees.
A lightning bolt struck a naval TNT magazine at Lake Denmark near Dover New Jersey sparking fires that threatened Picatinny army arsenal two miles away Molten steel rained on powder magazines and officials warned a large explosion could lay waste the surrounding countryside.
Thousands visit the Brooklyn Navy Yard to lay flowers on the sunken submarine S-51, honoring 33 Navy officers and men lost after a collision with the City of Rome. Identifications cover all but seven missing crew. records were found but largely unusable.
