Riley, a Boston youth, enlisted under an assumed name and returned home with his true identity revealed.

Battle in Havana as Cuban troops clash with civilians
In Havana on July 10 a confrontation between Cuban artillerymen and civilians left one dead two fatally or seriously injured and about twenty wounded. Police broke up the first clash at 9 PM, with several arrests. In LaPorte Indiana two highwaymen tried to rob the United States Express Company's transfer wagon between the Lake Shore and Lake Erie stations. Guard Clarence Angerman was knocked senseless but recovered and shot at the robbers as they fled the scene. The wagon’s money box containing several thousand dollars was not secured. Rescuer Leaps From Balloon to Save Woman
Boston aeronaut William Canfield leaped 1000 feet to save Mrs. Camilla Stafford during a Lynn Common ascent. She escaped unhurt while Canfield was badly injured after hitting a house as his parachute swayed in strong wind. Five thousand spectators watched the dramatic descent. The leaking balloon caused the emergency. Stafford later landed in an apple tree and was rescued.
