Steubenville Ohio July 9 Bishop D H Moore told Epworth League delegates that he would not allow a daughter to teach in any Chinese mission in the United States, arguing the work should be undone rather than permit women to teach. He cited the New York murder case to justify his stance and urged opposition to women teaching in missions.
Edward N. Detzer, paying teller at First National Bank in Fort Wayne Indiana, was arrested on embezzlement charges of $8 000. The shortage surfaced during a vacation at the Alaska Yakop exposition. Detzer confessed claiming he took the funds to maintain his wife in a social station, which his legitimate means could not justify. He posted bond to appear before the federal grand jury.

Byrth a long time Great Northern railroad general agent in Cincinnati died after a traction car collision near Madisonville Milford Ohio Emil Schmidt was a passenger and died later in Milford Mrs Byrth visiting Seattle faced a long journey home to Cincinnati to attend the funeral. Railroad officials prepared to inform her as to whether she could reach Cincinnati in time for services.
President Taft unveils tentative western and southern travel plan ending with a possible Sept meeting with President Diaz at El Paso. The trip includes Beverly to Seattle for the exposition, stops in Los Angeles San Diego El Paso Austin Corpus Christi Fort Sam Houston and Jackson Miss then on to Montgomery Macon Augusta Savannah Wilmington and Richmond before returning to Washington.
Denver reports the National Education Association closing with Dr. Henry B. Favill urging public schools as moral health bulwarks. Speakers discuss school hygiene, home study, and the push for gentler, inclusive physical education while manual training stresses arts and rural home influence.

At Tica, after the discovery of bruises on Harley Klink’s body in a buggy, Glover Nice, identified as a companion who was with Klink the previous night, was arrested and held as a witness pending an inquest.
In Beverly Massachusetts on July 9 a strike in the Taft household caused a lookout and import of a strikebreaker from Washington. Rosebud the cow caused the dispute by giving excess milk to the president’s family. 16 year old Wallace was fired after demanding higher pay. William Scott arrived to take over milking duties.
In Monroe Louisiana on July 9 W Webb shot and killed S L Bracey after a street quarrel over a woman whose house they visited. Webb received several slight wounds. The incident arose from their dispute over the woman.
Glenwood Springs Col July 9 Randolph W Walton an Eik of Columbus Ohio made the climb up Pike s Peak today on foot in five hours and the return trip in three hours beating the best previous record for the round trip by nearly thirty minutes
Judge Gard refused both Joseph Freyberg and Mary Freyberg a divorce in a Millville area case. Freyberg cited alleged flirtation with Charles Hartman at home. Mrs Freyberg claimed cruelty. The court found Hartman caused the breakup but could not justify blackening the wife’s name. Alimony denied. each party awarded one child.
Riots erupt in La Paz as Bolivian crowds clash near the Argentine legation after President Alcorta's ruling on the Acre dispute with Bolivia. Troops guard diplomats and streets amid fears for minister Fonseca and possible Brazil involvement over a $10 million Acre land sale.
Dr. Jine La Plaza invites Livia and Peru to office to present Alcorta's arbitral ruling on the border dispute. The Bolivian minister misses the session. the Peruvian minister receives the decision. Livian minister says he was not invited to avoid committing his government. he favors Peru despite calling for equal division.
Lima reports Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Porras saying Peru is satisfied with the decision on border limits. He says the ruling will improve relations between President Leguia and President Alcorta and thanks the services as arbitrator for a successful resolution.
July 9 report from Melilla Morrocco describes fierce fighting between Spanish forces and tribesmen from adjacent regions. Four Spanish workers were killed and Governor Marina ordered punitive action. Artillery shelled villages while infantry stormed a fort. Casualty counts vary with reports of heavy losses on the tribal side.
