U S Deputy Marshals swarm Dillonvale Ohio as 26 sworn in to guard mines and stop whisky shipments. Strikers 900 strong plan to resist with moral suasion while receivers bar liquor transport and pledge non violent protection to workers returning tomorrow.
The Morris Coal Company Albright Coal Company and M A Hanna report miners remain out with no negotiations. Cleveland manufacturers fear a coal famine as railways seize fuel consignments and Col Myron T Herrick cannot be found to respond to charges. Ratchford alleges Herrick employs 1200 aliens to block the strike while Herrick vows to operate mines.
In Brazil Indiana a brass band of miners will escort striking workers to and from No 1 Brazil Black Coal Company mine daily unless they return to work. State Labor Commissioner B F Schmidt met with black coal operators and a full delegation but no settlement was reached as operators accuse miners of breaking contracts.

A sensation at the Jeffersonville Reformatory as Clerk Pate Deputy Clerk Healy and Hospital Steward Dr Kurtner along with Guard J H Moswell are removed. Reports say two more officials may be dismissed in a day or two.
In Anderson Indiana on July 8 the marriage of seventeen year old Berthe Marsh daughter of Police Superintendent George Marsh and Will Clifford was authorized after a telephone consent from the girl's father. The couple fled from Cincinnati and were found in Anderson seeking a license.
A Los Angeles telegram reports William Neff, fugitive Clayton House night clerk, alive after a failed suicide attempt. He is recovering and held for Delaware authorities. Clayton House manager James L Willis seeks extradition, promising pursuit regardless of expense. If extradited, he faces punishment at the pillory and whipping post upon conviction.
Silas Ratliff, a laborer and Ratliff's wife and two children, vanished with Allie May Allison, granddaughter of the late Elias Simpson, who died leaving an estate worth about a half million dollars. Allison, about 22, heir to $9,000, sold her undivided share to her uncle Henry Simpson for $4,000 before fleeing with Ratliff. They may be headed to Mt. Carmel Illinois where Ratliff has relatives.
An unknown man was found dead in the Ohio River at the foot of Thirty-fourth Street by barge tender Thomas Neady. He had a gash across the throat numerous cuts and stabs and the left arm was missing, indicating a violent death.
Washington July 8 The White House delays a currency commission message as Republican leaders warn against sending it during tariff bill confere nces. Senators Allison Quay and Dingley urge delay while predicts the plan would fail in the Senate. Republicans think pressing currency reform would delay or derail final tariff action.
President William McKinley has accepted an invitation to attend the Twenty third O V I reunion in Fremont Ohio on September 2 marking the twentieth anniversary of the City Hall corner stone laying. The event will bring veterans and local officials together for ceremonies and a reunion dinner.

Washington July 8 Senator Pritchard chairman of the Committee on Civil Service was informed the Civil Service Commission agreed to separate the Deputy Collectors of Customs and Internal Revenue from the classified service. An order to implement this change will soon be prepared and sent to the President.
Three armed men held up a Cicero and Proviso line trolley near Chicago tonight, robbing the conductor, motorman, and passengers of watches and cash. They took several silver and three gold watches and about $100. An hour later five more highwaymen hit an Archer Avenue car at Thirty-eighth and Kedzie, taking $60 a watch and a revolver.
In Emporia Kansas July 8 Harry Taylor, a well dressed boy about two years old, was fatally crushed by timbers shifting in a Santa Fe car. A Cincinnati connection is shown by letters and a sister Mrs J Berriman. Harry Baskins of Pueblo Colorado narrowly escaped.
Byron Griffiths died after drinking whisky laced with laudanum at John Reider’s saloon in Defiance Ohio. Reider says he added about twenty drops of laudanum, Griffiths fell ill and died within an hour. Authorities investigate the incident.
Governor Mount announced plans to pardon William Kennedy who has served a life term since 1886 in an Indianapolis prison. The case involved a fatal shooting linked to a Cincinnati Dayton crowd, with Kennedy convicted on circumstantial evidence as a youth. His sister campaigned tirelessly for decades to secure his release.
New York July 5 Martin Thorn and Mrs Augusta Nack are indicted for first degree murder in the Guldensuppe case. The search for Guldensuppe's head continues in the East River as Inspector O'Brien seeks a full confession from Thorn, who provides his movements but refuses details of the murder day. Thorn's confinement and constant scrutiny are said to be causing rapid weight loss as investigators press for truth.

The bill carries 872 amendments and a net rate reduction of about 5 percent, with key changes including internal revenue tax on cigars and stamp tax on stock transactions. Conference sessions run daily as leaders seek to report back by next Wednesday.
The House sent the tariff bill to conference with Republican conferees Dingley Payne Dalzell Hopkins Grosvenor and Democrats Bailey McMillan Wheeler appointed.
