A tornado sweeps across Texas farm districts leaving about 100 dead or injured. Reports also note two Illinois banks shot by Topeka crash, with charges filed.
The Comptroller of the Currency appointed National Bank Examiners D A Cook and J MacShort as receivers for Spring Valley National Bank of Spring Valley and First National Bank of Toluca Illinois after reports the banks would not open. The suspensions followed advice from bank officials and the examiner’s review. Continued on second page.

The Cincinnati Business Men's Club endorsed seeking a reciprocal treaty with the United States and Germany and other nations. President T. J. Moffett was named to attend a Chicago conference August 15–16. The move follows Germany and other nations increasing duties on American exports, risking home manufacture. The club urged Congress to pursue reciprocity and ratification of a treaty with Germany, noting U S exports to Germany reached 215 million in 1904. A similar resolution urged action against duties on exports to France Russia Switzerland and Austro Hungary.
