Miss Gertrude Dupee, a Chicago native and stage performer, saved Cincinnati broker J Milton Stenson from drowning near lifeguards at Atlantic City. Stenson sent a $200 check as thanks, which Dupee declined. the event drew a large crowd as she and Stenson were helped to shore.
In Rochester New York July 5 a state industries school riot left one boy Joseph Clever wounded after mutineers gathered on the roof during a fireworks display. Three others escaped with officers pursuing them outside the stone wall. Gunfire from a shotgun halted the rampage as guards fired warning shots.
J Pierpont Morgan traveled Kiel to Berlin in a royal carriage lent by Herr Ballin. He was accompanied by Clement Griscom and others, arriving at 4:30 p.m. in Berlin. Morgan plans Hamburg and Paris visits with Potsdam palaces to see, while Emperor William welcomed the party and discussed cross national lessons.
