Officials fear up to 500 deaths if no aid arrives before daylight.
Special Dispatch to Commercial Tribune reports Brazos River rising to historic levels at Sartatia Texas forcing evacuations. Southern plantations from Cunningham near Sugarland to Richmond flooded. two miles of Southern Pacific track washed away near Hartwell ending train service. Cunningham sugar plantation, the largest in the United States, washed away.
A Texas flood report notes Brazos and Colorado river areas submerged with 89 dead, mostly Black residents. Rescue teams search flooded towns as spillover threatens crops and bridges. Saratoga N Y July 5 Bishop John H Newman of the Methodist Episcopal Church is dead after paralysis and pneumonia. He served as chaplain to the Senate and preached for Grant during his last illness. The body will be taken to Mechanicsville for burial with funeral services planned for Saturday afternoon at 8 o clock at the First Methodist Church. Bishop Potter expected to deliver the funeral address.

Chicago July 5 Marshall Field as an individual and Marshall Field & Company will pay over a quarter of a million dollars in Cook County taxes on 27 million dollars of personal and real property. The combined cash value is 26.25 million with a total assessment of 5.25 million. No personal property schedule was filed. the assessors set 6.25 million for both entities and no objection is expected.
In Wilbur Tyler County a young husband Zane Ferguson shot and killed his mother-in-law Mrs. Kester A. Davis during a domestic quarrel that erupted when Davis interfered in a dispute between Ferguson and his wife. The incident occurred yesterday morning.
In Columbus Ohio promoters stipulate to head off an independent labor movement by endorsing key Labor platform features. John J Lentz is frozen out as toastmaster for the dollar banquet with Bryan and Tarvin to speak. The Thurman resolutions affirm Bryan for 1900, oppose imperialism and trusts, and urge municipal control of utilities.
Berlin reports published correspondence between Admirals Dewey and Von Diedrichs. The March 17 letter from Von Diedrichs congratulates Dewey on promotion and notes satisfaction that their differences were manufactured. Washington reports there is not a single yellow fever case entering the United States. In Terre Haute Indiana on July 5 police probe a dynamiting at Rev. M. C. Sims’s Highland Place home. Assailants drilled the foundation, placed dynamite, and fled before the blast. Sims awakened and fired at the intruders, wounding one man who was carried away by the other. The house foundation is cracked and all windows blown out.
London July 5 The Queen revived the Barony of Dorchester and conferred the barony on the wife of General Loir Carleton, daughter of the last Baron Dorchester, and her male heirs according to official dispatches.
Washington July 5 plans broadened for a volunteer army with General Otis to command near 50,000 troops, forming ten regiments to join early skeleton regiments at Manila. Major Edmund Rice of the Third Infantry named first colonel of the Twenty sixth United States Volunteer Infantry. Rice to recruit across New England and New York with rendezvous at Plattsburg and other forts.
Columbus July 5 Zachery T Lewis Urbana banker and forger was paroled today by the Board of Penitentiary Managers on request of Manager Rose of Marietta He served eight years after being sentenced in Champaign County Court for forging bonds whose total value remains uncertain with estimates up to 800000 Mrs Lewis turned over her property to creditors and keeps Urbana boarders Lewis is ill in the prison hospital The Managers also paroled several other convicts including Curtis Hall Charles C Cuttin Edward Denton William Downs Augustus Zwicker Kinsey Hill John Lust George Moore and Pearl Nelson

Saxce faces transfer as discipline, while Julliard may move to another brigade. Saxce is named possibly to preside over a Dreyfus court-martial. Pressense criticized him as an infamous scoundrel for remarks.

In Montpelier Ohio on Tuesday near Tedrow a man named Joseph Scra brouch was struck by an accidentally lighted skyrocket. It entered his back and penetrated the lungs, causing death shortly after the incident.
