Canton dispatch says 88 year old Mrs. McKinley fell on a porch striking her forehead. doctors sewed a deep cut without ether. President McKinley, wife, and aides left Canton after a quiet visit, with no demonstrations, returning to Washington.
A drunken gang attacked a Benwood picnic party near Wheeling West Virginia injuring four. One man died from stab wounds and gunfire. Edward Pearl, an ex police officer, was stabbed and shot and may die. Joseph Anslinger was stabbed in the back George Earnest received five stab wounds John Steger was stabbed in the arm. William Iman was arrested for the stabbing.
Special Dispatch reports Mrs. John Mc Carthy, 40, of Barberton, lit a gasoline stove this morning when fluid overflowed. Fire ignited her dress and she burned to death.
Report from Honolulu states Nel lie West an American lady was severely beaten by two Japanese marines from the warship Naniwa while attempting to aid her brother attacked by sailors. She stays bedridden and cannot testify in court where the sailors face assault charges. A local businessman knocked down three Naniwa sailors and American Blue Jackets are pursuing ring leaders. one sufferer’s life is endangered after injuries.
Harriman Tennessee July 5 the large rolling mill idle for nearly four years was started this morning and will soon run double turn on bar and sod iron The Hoe and Tool Company plans an addition to its works due to heavy orders Harriman Plow and Handle Company and Shaw Hulse Handle Company are expanding their plants adding machinery The tack factory idle for three years will resume full force August 1
Arthur Lucas, 23, abducts Miss Nellie McConkey at Lake Fork Church during Children's Day services. He stabs Stewart Hickman, drags McConkey a mile and a half by the hair, and threatens poison if refused. Lawmen arrest Lucas. lynching talk follows as he stands trial.
Gent Franklin and Ed Bledsoe were picking blackberries near Farmer Helton’s home when Helton fired a shotgun at them. Franklin was shot in the back, Bledsoe’s hand shattered, Helton wounded in the shoulder, Mrs Helton shot in the ear and shoulder, and Miss Helton struck in the hip. Officers have gone to arrest Helton.
Special dispatch from Youngstown reports Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Morgan died in Millcreek Park when their horse and rig plunged 75 feet over a precipice onto rocks. Beth Morgan died soon after. Mr. Morgan, a retired iron worker, survived the fall.
Five prisoners Tim Williams John McDonnell J McCaffery David Shup and John Dunlap escaped from the Springfield city jail after sawing through a bar and sliding from a window. Tom Norris witnessed the escape and alerted the keeper as the fugitives vanished.
In Richmond Kentucky Henry Jiles and Joe Gatliffe quarreled at Big Hill Jiles drew a pistol and fatally wounded Gatliffe in the side Jiles says it was self defense He fled on a cross after the shooting and three miles distant Henry Rainey a relative of the deceased shot the horse Jiles rode Jiles is jailed
Akron authorities report Mrs M C Wilton, who vanished in a sensation stirring event, has sent a letter to a friend claiming she is living abroad with a man identified as an unidentified band member, details unclear from the fragment.

In Blancaster Ohio Rev. John Hall, famed Mennonite preacher, prayed for calamity to draw salvation seekers. A windstorm struck his tent during services, tearing it to pieces and causing a panic as hundreds tried to escape. No serious injuries, though Dr. Jonas Watkins suffered a badly bruised shoulder from a fallen pole.
Parkerburg report says 14 year old George Horton drowned while bathing near Belpre. Rescuer Hiram Welch was washed downstream and saved with great difficulty after attempting a rescue.
Kenton Ohio July 5 six year old Peter Pfeiffer a Goshen Township farmer hanged himself in his barn this morning amid reports of business reverses. The tragedy is noted as the second such incident in the area this week.
A conference of Mormons led by eleven elders met in Fairfield County’s only Mormon Church built with self denied funds. Sixteen Catawba converts attended. at midnight a mob torched the church in several places, burning it to the ground. The group held a meeting today in a bush arbor. Christians opposing such warfare have funded a larger church.
Kentucky farmers met in Lexington to discuss withholding the wart wheat crop from sale until prices improve. Millers offer sixty cents a bushel for new wheat, deemed uneconomical by growers. Squire J C Hayes of Woodford County chaired the meeting, with a July 12 follow up planned and state wide attendance urged. About 15 million bushels expected, mostly sold to Kentucky millers.
In Richmond Kentucky an unknown white man about 21 years old died in a log car at Shearer station on the L and N railroad last night. His neck was broken and a large log lay across his body. A verdict of accidental death was rendered indicating he was crushed by rolling logs while stealing a ride.
National Conference of the People’s party convened in Nashville with about 600 delegates. A heated exchange erupted between Mac Lindsley and John H. McDowell over accusations of selling Tennessee Populists to Republicans, ending with a cane strike amid ongoing fusion debate.
Widow Maria McCann aged 70 a Fayette County magnate was attacked tonight by an unknown Black assailant in her Winchester Pike residence. The intruder carried her to a cabin then choked her before she fought him off. she is recovering from shock as deputies hunt for a clue.

They were viewing fireworks from a skiff when the excursion steamer A. K. Riggs collided with their boat and sent them into the water.
During the Fourth of July celebration in Springfield Ohio Miss Tillie Scheerschmidt married Samuel Crist in the band stand at the race track. Justice J. D. Brydon officiated as about four thousand spectators looked on. The couple was later feted at the St James Hotel with gifts from local merchants to start housekeeping.
About seventy five delegates gathered in Columbus to organize a State Association of Barbers. They plan a bill for a State Board of Barber Examiners and will stay in session through tomorrow.

The Sumter meeting for the U S Senate nomination degenerated into a sensational scene as ex Senator Irby clashed with McLaurin. Irby accused McLaurin of treachery while McLaurin denied the charges and urged restraint. Campaigning begins with Irby and McLaurin as leading figures, Governor Evans declining to run.

Pan American delegates arrive from St Louis and stay four days in Chicago. A Reception Committee of the National Business League will entertain them, with a luncheon at the Auditorium after a welcome by Corporation Counsel Thornton. Mayor Harrison is absent. Williamsburg Kentucky July 5 William Sullivan who assaulted and nearly killed Sarah Lawson on June 17 was brought into court for an examining trial. Lawson was too ill to attend. Sullivan waived examination and was sent to the county jail without bail.
