Call money fell from 10 to 5 percent, boosting stocks and bonds. Banks and foreign funds flooded New York, with the Comptroller delaying July 2 call date and banks seeking to lend before the holiday. Foreign currencies also moved into dollars as demand rose.
James Senter 28 a former bootlegger and bookmaker was found shot to death in a Brooklyn vacant lot. Police call the killing a mafia reprisal linked to recent gangland violence tied to Alf Capone's faction. The car involved carried shotguns revolvers and gunfire holes in its windows.
Report from Mexico City says eighty insurgents died in battles with federal troops in Jalisco. Two men described as priests, Perez and Degollado, were among the dead near Ayutla, assembled banners and priest robes were captured. Lew Tendler, Philadelphia light weight, presumed to have a fractured left arm, and his mother‑in‑law Mrs. Harry Lasker were in critical condition after Tendler’s car left the road near Salisbury Maryland, rolled into a creek and overturned. Tendler’s wife two sons and father‑in‑law escaped with minor injuries. Lasker’s scalp was torn. Tendler said a rear tire blew out, causing the crash. The injured were brought to Peninsula Hospital.
