The Allis-Chalmers Company was fined 4000 by Judge Landis in U S District Court after a jury found the firm guilty of importing four iron molders from Manchester England in violation of the alien contract labor law. Counsel plans an appeal to reverse the verdict.

Terrific squall sinks 80 boats in Hong Kong harbor

A sudden heavy rain squall in Hong Kong sank over fifty Chinese craft within ten minutes, drowning more than 100 natives while none of the white population were casualties. Shore launches rescued many, and wrecks filled the harbor. The river steamer Paul Bean broke adrift but was anchored without damage.

Saarbrucken mine disaster leaves hundreds entombed

A fire damp explosion at the Birdstock shaft of the Reden mine in Sant Johann on the Saar traps many miners. About 600 workers were present, 77 bodies recovered, 55 known dead below, with 35 of the survivors judged certain to die. Rescue efforts may take a week.

Two Bolyards Arrested for 1904 Cardington Murder

Lou Bolyard and wife Grace Bolyard are jailed in Mt. Gilead charged with the murder of Charles Westbrook, a Morrow County farmer who left Ashley for Cardington on March 17, 1904 and was found dead in the river two weeks later near Cardington. Lou Bolyard was employed as a bartender in Sanieon at the time.
