Five men were executed by firing squad in Juarez cemetery after authorities uncovered a plot to hand Juarez to Mexican revolutionary chiefs. Colonel Roman Lopez reported rifles pistols and ammunition found with the conspirators.
Esperanza, a key strategic railway town between Mexico City and Vera Cruz, was captured by General Martinez's Federal forces. In continuing actions, Almazan's cavalry defeated Maycotte at San Miguel Saltepec, rebels retreated to Canada Morelos, and pursuing Federal units dispersed them.
Warren J. Lincoln, jailed for the murder of his wife and brother in law, was judged a chronic dementia praecox by Dr. Joseph Springer Cook County coroner’s physician. The doctor urged placing Lincoln in an insane asylum without trial as a grand jury prepares an indictment in Geneva on February 4. Lincoln gave varying statements, claimed bodies were burned in a greenhouse furnace, and showed police where the heads were found encased in cement.
Miss Dorris B. Blackerby a 25 year old Miami University student died Saturday night from a self inflicted gunshot wound at her father's Montgomery home. A note stated she could not make anyone happy and was disgusted with life. She was previously married and divorced from Ralph Taylor. Friends noted no apparent worries and she planned to become a teacher after completing her studies.
Major Lewis M. Hosea, 81, jurist and civic leader, died at his Clifton home after six days of bronchial pneumonia. A Civil War veteran, he served as captain and brevet major with the Guthrie Grays, later becoming a Cincinnati judge and guiding the School of Technology and Antioch College reorganization. He is survived by four brothers, two daughters, and a host of friends. Funeral at 3 p.m. Monday, burial in Spring Grove Cemetery.
At the United Mine Workers convention in Indianapolis the Scale Committee nears final report and is expected to back a four year renewal of the present wage scale. Insurgents push for a 20 percent raise and a six hour five day week, while shorter hours are unlikely. The convention also weighs constitutional changes and elections of international organizers and officials.
Police found four occupants in a car dressed as women after a collision on Plum Street. One masquerader, Lawrence Hack aged 29 of Desmond Street, faced a reckless driving warrant. all four were taken to Central Station for processing. Officer John Dempsey reported no injuries.
Four people were killed and two seriously injured when a Nickel Plate passenger train struck an automobile in Hammond Indiana early today. The dead include 18 year old Robert Patterson and Hammond residents Beatrice Doner 28 Sarah Doner 3 John Doner 1 while driver Nancy Schult likely died from injuries and Luella Riegel 12 Roby Indiana plus Irene Doner 4 suffered injuries.
A mine explosion at Lancashire Mine Barnes Tucker Coal Co. in Shanktown Pa. left thirty one dead and five more miners located as rescue crews search through water logged passages. Nine men survived shock and gas and are hospitalized. Authorities including J D Parker oversee the perilous operation as the death toll is expected to rise. Emergency crews press to finish recovering bodies tonight with help from Bethlehem Mine inspectors and local Red Cross and Salvation Army workers aiding families in bitter cold and snow.
Pittsburgh police identified three Huntington West Virginia men Charles J. Jordan B Lafferty and D L Moore as hold up suspects in McKees Rocks earlier Friday night. Jordan claims the shooting of Laura Hall was accidental. The body of 19 year old Laura Hall was later found in a car.

Joseph Mosier aged 25 of 29 Park avenue Newport Kentucky was bruised on the arm and left shoulder when an automobile driven by him and another driven by Phil Dattilio of 319 Cottage street Hamilton Ohio collided at an unidentified location. The report notes injuries and the drivers involved.
Police arrest Henry Foster and two others at 432 Carlisle avenue in connection with the January 20 murder of Walter Armstrong. Descriptions match Armstrong's attackers, with witnesses noting a scar on Foster. Also tied to robberies are William Green and William Doak, while Johnson and Thompson may identify the trio.
Five people burned to death and four seriously injured when a fire destroyed four houses in Farrell Pennsylvania after explosions suggested a broken gas main. Washington dispatch reports President Coolidge and the Senate plan swift action to annul naval oil leases after disclosures to the Oil Investigating Committee. The plan envisions one or two special counsels to pursue suits, with the Walsh resolution directing immediate action against the Teapot Dome leases and possible reconveyance to the government without court proceedings.
