Carrie Nation caused a Topeka uproar as she sought to raid joints led by saloon keepers. A mob assaulted her, a police officer drew his pistol to protect Nation, and she sought a warrant against her attacker. She planned further actions and an address at a major church tomorrow.
Secretary Long moved the battleship Wisconsin into commission from February 1 to February 4 due to sailors superstition about beginning on a Friday. Captain Reiter cited the omen and the Thirteen Club of New York had urged keeping the February 1 date. The ship’s construction at Union Iron Works in San Francisco was nearing completion.
In Crawfordsville Indiana this morning in the Circuit Court Oren Brown Homer Arnold Wm Williams and Millard Brown pleaded guilty to selling their votes to the Democratic party at the late Presidential election.
