In Pittsburg on January 24 a sane convict wounded Penitentiary Guard Walter Beall and a male nurse at Western penitentiary hospital. Beall died later from wounds. the nurse and Beall's stab wounds were severe with doubtful recovery. Convict John Bulloch, 25, seized a table knife and stabbed during a patient check then died after Beall fired.
A woman shouted Meyer to attract a boy, but the cry sounded like Fire to 2,500 theatergoers on Lexing ton avenue. The crowd rushed exits, a fire alarm was pulled, and fire police arrived. No injuries were reported.
The Most Rev Arthur Sweatman archbishop of Toronto metropolitan of East Canada and primate of all Canada died this afternoon from bronchial pneumonia. Born in England 1834 he was educated at Cambridge and came to Canada in 1868 elected bishop of Toronto in 1879 and elevated to primate in 1881 after Archbishop Bond's death.
Dayton police hold Charles Snyder and Sam Morris for further investigation in the Forschner murder case as coroner reports say Mary Forschner died by strangulation with facial bruising and torn clothing. Autopsy notes multiple abrasions and a missing glove while investigators surveil several crews with no charges yet.
In LaRue County Kentucky home of Abraham Lincoln the county voted dry by 1085 with more than four to one against licenses. Bells rang as children marched and a brass band played. Prayer meetings were held and women served hot coffee at polling places.

St. Petersburg January 24 Major General Alexieff retired under probe for irregularities was acquitted on extortion but found guilty of accepting a bribe from a British gunmakers firm. He was fined 5000 and dismissed from service.
Creditors of Princess Louise agree to hold the jewels bequeathed by Queen Henrietta as security rather than sell at auction. The jewels will stay with the creditors until the princess can pay off her debts in Brussels on January 24.
