Covington Offers Land Lease for Park Purposes
Attorney W H Mackay presented to Covington Council an offer to lease the Levassor estate of about 48 acres on the Licking River south of Holmesdale for park use for ten years with deed to the city at the end. The land is in United States litigation but both sides agree to lease. The one year lease starts at 8500 dollars with annual renewals. The city would pay 3 percent interest on the shortfall between 85000 value and amounts paid. Further, less than 10000 dollars per year could buy the property and secure a park without bonds. The council will consider Monday evening with philanthropists rumored to back the first year.
