Old '76 Distillery Burns By Ohio River Newport

The Old '76 Distilling Company plant near Newport Kentucky was destroyed in a major fire the night prior. Senator Alger Dies Suddenly After Ill Health

United States Senator Russell A. Alger of Michigan died at 8 45 this morning at his Washington residence after an acute edema of the lungs. He had been in frail health for some time but had attended Senate activity Tuesday and was at the War Department yesterday afternoon. Funeral planned for Detroit with services at 2 pm Saturday. He is survived by his widow and five children.

Fatal Shootout at Federal Building in Cincinnati

Thomas Morgan, 32, shot and killed bricklayer Thom as Wedge, 32, after a street confrontation near the Federal Building in Cincinnati. Morgan had sought police protection from two men before Wedge punched him and three others pursued. Morgan fired five times, two bullets hit Wedge in the back and he died at City Hospital. Morgan was arrested, charged with murder, and portrayed as defending himself amid a crowded scene with witnesses ready to testify.

Jury Churn Rises as Thaw Trial Adds Five Jurors
