A pistol battle during a prison escape at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary left seven dead and one wounded as three convicts armed with revolvers broke from guards. Victims include Judge John R. Thomas and Deputy Warden Petrick Oakes. prison staff and a visitor Mary Foster were injured.
The Delaware and Hudson Railway ended a lengthy walkout after the Federal Board of Mediation and Conciliation forced an agreement. Engineers and conductors returned to work once two discharged employees were reinstated, with arbitration ruled impossible. Normal service resumed by 11 p.m. and about 5 000 workers had stopped work earlier.
At the Cincinnati Business Men's Club dinner over five hundred merchants gathered to honor the Chamber of Commerce on its seventy fifth anniversary. Mayor Spiegel administered an oath to officers while Commodore Wadhams urged a peace keeping navy concept. Walter Draper chaired the event with flowers and bunting signaling harmony after electoral campaigning.
The executive secretary read the minutes of the Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce's first meeting. Officials debated salt prices and feared monopoly, passing resolutions against it. The session included the election of officers, with a slip of the tongue noted.
Panama January 19 Special. Princess Marie Louise of Schleswig Holstein daughter of the late Queen Victoria and her party traveled by steam launch through the canal from Pedro Miguel to Culebra. They were guests of Colonel George W. Goethals and were received by Sir Claude C. Mallet. The princess continues to Kingston Jamaica.

Government workers and troops mobilize to free trains and restore connections as a harsh winter mirrors historic cold spells.
Senator Burton and Representative Willis head to Youngstown for a large meeting. They tout party unity, attack Cox machine and Democratic tariff, and push for repeal of local self-government laws. Willis positions as a prelude to his bid for governor.
Walter Darby, who ran away from Passaic, New Jersey, at age twelve to “see the world,” returns to his family. He traveled with a 60 year old tramp, used the name Tommy Green, and was jailed for vagrancy before a Bath area farmer adopted him. A church sermon about runaways led him to come home.
In Holland Ohio today two Italian workers, William Mareino and Toney Patrasko, were killed by a premature dynamite blast at a stone quarry. Both had recently begun blasting limestone and ignored warnings on delayed blasts. Patrasko had a family in Italy and had sent for them.
