Corbin Kentucky remains quiet as militia withdraws after a large Gatling gun and about 100 soldiers patrolled the town. The Cox woman and Shotwell family deaths, arrests, and a coroner inquiry dominated the day while families mourned and guards protected homes and funeral processions.
A Toledo girl Miss Mary Milgenhoffer, seventeen, sobbed in Captain Pumphrey’s office as H. C. Chaffee, about 32, sat in a detention cell. Chaffee was arrested on charges of passing bogus checks on three Baltimore florists after using fake $10 notes to obtain $2 flowers. He lured the girl into eloping across multiple cities including Cincinnati Milwaukee Pittsburg and Cumberland Md, funding trips with similar counterfeit payments.
Loganport Indiana January 18 two men captured at Green Hill and brought to Plymouth identified as Marvin and John Kuhns by Plymouth merchants H A Shambo and W A Kauffman. Relatives in Churubusco report the men left for Peru by Wabash Railroad. Marvin to be sent to Ohio officials and then to the penitentiary in Columbus Ohio with a reward awaiting.
Osborne Isle of Wight residents report the Queen’s physicians advise she remain quiet at the house and abstain from business due to past year’s strain on her nervous system.

In Bellaire Ohio on New Year’s Day sixteen year old William Burge was accidentally shot and killed by William Danford. Deputy Sheriff Majors charged Danford with murder after the grand jury returned the indictment and took him to St. Clairsville. Burge’s father testified there was an old grudge and contended the death was murder.
The Senate approved the army bill after accepting several amendments and defeating radical minority proposals. Senator Lindsay of Kentucky sided with Republicans on passage and most amendments. Charles M. Oberlin had Mr. and Mrs. George Wagoner arrested after two $500 diamond rings vanished from his Home street home. Police searched the Wagoners with no rings found. Oberlin alleges Mrs. Wagoner swallowed them and held them at gunpoint until arrest.
