Swallow sinks in blinding Long Island storm
In a fierce early Sunday snowstorm off the Long Island shore, the schooner Swallow of St Johns Newfoundland and her crew vanished. Wreckage washed ashore near Fire Island, with no trace of the twelve, seen earlier by a Blue Point life saver. The vessel, seventy three tons, likely struck a sand bar off Blue Point.

Passenger and freight train collision near Coffeyville
A south bound Missouri Pacific passenger train from Kansas City collided head on with a north bound freight two miles west of Coffeyville Kansas this morning. Twenty five passengers were injured with only two in serious condition Mr and Mrs P S Howell of Nowata Oklahoma among the injured. The freight crew admits they overlooked the passenger train timetable.

Massive Boston Auto Plant Fire Destroys 750000 Value
A dawn blaze at Boston near Park Square demolished 848 automobiles valued at about 750 000 dollars and damaged the old Park Square train shed. Restaurant Owner Slain by Robber in Union Iowa
In Union Iowa on January 17, restaurant keeper L. Trimball was shot twice through the head and killed as he counted cash. A pistol threatened him as a robber demanded money. Trimball surrendered silver and expected bills before the killer fired. A posse hunts the murderer.
