Former Governor James A Mount died at 6 30 p m in the Denison Hotel Indianapolis after a sudden apoplexy. He retired Monday after turning over duties to Governor-elect Durbin and planned to return to his Shannondale farm. He was 57, born in Shelby County Ohio, served in Wilder's Brigade Civil War, and had served as State Senator.
Helena Mont January 16 W A Clay elected United States Senator to succeed Thomas H Clark in a joint session. Clay received fifty seven votes of ninety three cast on the first ballot and was declared elected. No one was elected for the short term.
Crawfordsville Indiana residents react to the death of Governor Mount a loved and popular figure. His family planned a homecoming reception and had prepared to move into the farm home next Friday. Charles Butler had already vacated the residence.

A score of other tenants escaped with difficulty. The loss was 20000 including personal effects and household goods of twelve families.
