Lake Shore fast mail No 35 telescoped a west bound freight in Ashtabula Ohio today. The engine and caboose and six freight cars were badly wrecked. Train 28 stopped on a high bridge a minute before the crash. Traffic delayed for hours while wreckers from Cleveland and Erie cleared debris. A major loss of life was narrowly averted at the site of the historic 1876 disaster.
