Special Dispatch reports Allen Ainslie of Ainslie & Grabow in Boston notes Kingston was jolted by a quake with fires in the city, while the north side housing the Titchfield Hotel escaped damage. Dr. George H. Bridgman, former American Consul, says the consulate is led by W. H. Orrett and Jamaica natives serve as secretaries. about 100 Americans reside in Kingston amid a slow tourist season.
State Geologist Clark said the seismograph at the State Museum recorded a slight earthquake yesterday in Albany with a 30 minute east west movement beginning at 12 47 p m The Weather Bureau confirmed a slight quake with minimal motion reported yesterday by its seismograph
Kingston Jamaica the picturesque capital of the Island of Jamaica lies in ruins after a violent earthquake. Reports say buildings destroyed and many killed though lines are down and details scarce. English knight Sir James Fergusson is reported killed.
A sequence of powerful shocks devastates Kingston Jamaica causing one sixteenth of the city to burn. Up to seventy killed and about three hundred injured as flimsy wooden structures collapse and fire follows the tremors. Notables including English statesmen and agricultural experts were in Kingston to attend an agricultural conference.
Springfield reports a major earthquake causing widespread destruction and fires along the water front. Mr and Mrs John McKee, honeymooning in Jamaica after a New York wedding, are feared affected amid collapsed hotels and a ruined British station.
A Hamburg American line cablegram reports a slight earthquake near Jamaica with no damage at Holland Bay Port Antonio or the Litchfield Hotel. The signal comes from a cable hut near Holland Bay about four miles east of Kingston. The Litchfield Hotel remains with many guests from the North.
