A dramatic downtown blaze displaces families with extensive damage to shops. Fifteen children were rescued from a tenement fire while crews fought flames that tore through stores, causing major losses and prompting urgent citywide response.
Delegates from more than thirty states converge for the National Rivers and Harbors Congress to press for a 100 million dollar federal appropriation. Ohio plans fifteen delegates led by Cincinnati business leaders. West Virginia sends twenty eight led by Governor Dawson. President Roosevelt will host a White House reception Tuesday afternoon.
Republican County Central Committee in Perry County endorses E S Martin for Congress and authorizes him to name delegates to the Lancaster convention. The move secures a majority against General Grosvenor in the Eleventh District, with Fairfield and other counties signaling divisions and rival candidat es.
Police raided city saloons after midnight arresting Ludwig Sigmueller and several others for alleged closing law violations. At Elm Street 1618 and Canal and Vine corners officers found parties and beer sales, while saloon owners faced charges and disruption of meetings above premises.

Midnight blaze at 514 West Sixth Street caused about 6000 dollars in damage. Three men saved fifteen children and numerous adults by lowering them from upper windows as firemen battled barred doors and dense smoke. Fire started from an overheated stove. several residents escaped through rear exits.
Seven theology students were swept away by an avalanche in Hal Valley near Innsbruck Tyrol today. The group of twelve was on an excursion when the slide struck. Local rescuers battled conditions to reach survivors and determine casualties.
