Arm Caught in Belt Ends Life of Carthage Worker
Adam Manne aged 42 from Main street Carthage died after his arm was torn from the socket in a belt accident at Hess Spring Axle Company's plant. He volunteered to replace the belt and, while guiding the pulley band, was pulled into the machinery. He bled to death from shock and hemorrhage. his death leaves seven children destitute. Coroner and doctor attended, body moved to Manne home. Manne had moved from Crab Orchard Kentucky ten years ago and was well known in Millcreek Valley.

Fire destroys Rock Island Battery plant in East Sixth Street
A massive blaze at the Rock Island Battery Company on East Sixth Street, east of Broadway, destroyed the five story brick plant. The $45,000 loss began in the engine room, fed by highly combustible materials, and necessitated multiple fire crews. Night watchman Nicholas Imhoff was rescued from a fourth story window after being awakened by falling glass. The fire, discovered at 11:35 PM, raged with explosions from a sulfuric acid tank and required a box alarm and ten blows. The cause remains undetermined.
Chadwick to Begin Ten Year Sentence
