A national employment bureau to recruit workers nationwide will be operated by the Department of Labor next week. Commissioner Caminetti announced that post offices and rural carriers, with 200000 Agriculture Department field agents, will collect and forward job applications to Labor officials for distribution to suitable employers. The system builds on Wilsons Indianapolis speech and follows a trial that aided workers after the Salem factory layoffs.
Turkish forces seize Kotur in Azerbaijan as Grand Duke Alexander Michaelovitch is killed at Miandoab Persia. London dispatches report Greece Turkey tensions over Greek persecutions in Asia Minor and land requisitions seen as confiscation. British air scouts located the German general staff in Amsterdam and dropped several bombs nearby. Fugitives report one explosion within 200 yards of the Emperor’s dining room. Anti aircraft guns fired as aviators withdrew with no casualties.

Two masked men raided the Barbour County farmhouse of William Haack early today. They shot his aged mother then clubbed Haack, who was found dying. Mrs Haack was shot in the head and later reported dying. The robbers fled with $800.
In New York on January 9 a homicide charge was filed against Mrs. Ida Sniffen Rogers. authorities say she gave poison to her two infants eleven days earlier and then attempted suicide. She learned of her babies’ deaths just before the charge was entered.

Ogdensburg news reports Captain W. H. Williams of Detroit sent his resignation to the Rutland Transit Company. He served fifty-one years as a vessel master on the Great Lakes, forty with Rutland, and was described as the oldest captain by years and service.
