Louise Michel Dies After Long Communist Career
Louise Michel a prominent Communist and revolutionary agitator died in Marseilles at age 75 after a bout of double pneumonia. She rose to prominence in the Franco Prussian War ambulance corps and Paris defense, later supported the Commune and urged burning Paris to block Versailles. Convicted of treason, she was exiled to New Caledonia until amnesty allowed return to Paris in 1880, later imprisoned again and lived in England pursuing anarchist doctrine.
