In Bucurus Ohio on January 7 Judge J Walter Wright used verse in an injunction denying a $1000 Dow Aiken tax against Frank Wank who sold illegal liquor in 1927. County Treasurer Ivan B Smith had sought the tax. the judge’s poem cited conscience and law.
Harry A. Husted of Cleveland announces a contract for a four motor Fokker to start from San Francisco on June 15 with Hongkong as the first stop. He aims to refuel over the Hawaiian Islands and fly with a crew of eight. The plan calls for converting 32 passenger seats to fuel storage and equipment space. James Doyle, veteran Western Air Express flyer, likely to be pilot. Changes to the aircraft will be handled by the Fokker Company.

Jan. Indianapolis report says six month twins survived after an explosion at the West Side home of Donald Klusner. Authorities say kerosene or gasoline used to kindle a fire caused the blast. The parents and three children died in hospital hours later. Mrs Klusner, burned and shocked, carried three children to a window and dropped them outside before a neighbor rescued the twins.
David Jerus alias Jew Bates, 39, died from a bullet wound after a kidnap attempt on Charles Stubbs, 41, with Lawrence Coates alias Durant, 25. Stubbs and Coates were shot. Stubbs remained critically ill at St Elizabeth Hospital. Jerus’ widow left Chicago to claim the body. police seek the car driver as Coates remains jailed. A bystander remark suggested the motive may extend beyond a simple robbery.
Robert Richardson, a Cleves avenue truck driver, was burned on the face and arms when a gasoline hose caught fire during an explosion at Cleves Concrete Products Company. Former President and Chief Justice William Howard Taft remains in a Washington hospital with a bladder trouble and other ailments. Doctors expect improvement within a week and Taft will retreat from official duties for several weeks.
