Supreme Court rules Employers Liability Act unconstitutional
The Supreme Court held the Employers Liability Act beyond Congresses power to regulate interstate commerce in a 5 to 4 decision. Justice White led the opinion noting the act applies to carriers in interstate commerce but also to wholly local activities, exceeding constitutional bounds.
