Coroner Corbin issues a lengthy statement amid caustic exchanges with Chief Farrell over autopsy conduct in the Little murder case. Farrell replies asking whether Frantz is related, and questions Corbin’s knowledge and handling of evidence and testimony.

Sixty Salt River victims were sheltered at the Courthouse after extreme exposure during 36 to 48 hours on hilltops and tree tops. Charles Allison, his wife and two year old son survived, while Mrs Allison remains critically ill. George Coppinger and family crossed floodwater. one child is serious and a likely death looms. About thirty more are in bad condition.

A Malformed fire killed seven Ursuline nuns at the Convent of Our Lady of Lake in St. John Rovervale Quebec. Victims include Eliza Gosselin Rose Gosselin Emma Lestourneau C. Garneau Laura Hudon Boule Deschambault Louise Girard and more. Loss set at $78,000 with $12,000 insured.

Major McKinley visits Canton to confer with Senator William B. Allison of Iowa and General Felix Agnus about Cabinet considerations. The meetings, held at McKinley's home, included lunch and discussion on Maryland and Southern states, with Agnus denying personal ambition.

Jim Howard a Black man near Dewitt Arkansas was seized from his home by a mob of eighteen to twenty men wearing whitecaps. He was beaten tied and dragged to a tree where a fire burned his feet and legs. The assailants demanded a confession for a barn fire alleged against him and warned his wife to stay silent. Howard escaped with injuries and pledges to leave the county within ten days. He can name some mob members.
Sheriff Maurice Hook of Augusta and Judge George W. Doniphin visited Covington as rumors spread that Laughlin would be moved to Augusta. Hook left for Cincinnati after meeting jail officials and did not reveal a transfer time. He says the plan to take Laughlin to Augusta Friday morning remains unchanged.
In Bismack North Dakota on January 6 the re election of Hansbrough to the State Senate appears assured. Hansbrough and his supporters claim pledges from a majority of Republican lawmakers. A blizzard halted rail traffic, delaying anti Hansbrough leaders and allowing Hansbrough’s faction to push a caucus and secure a first ballot victory.
John Daly, the released dynamiter, spoke at Holborn Town Hall about his prison life. A dense crowd attended after a prior procession amid strong chants of God bless you. Daly claimed witnessing cruelties that drove Dr Gallagher insane and accused the British government of manufacturing evidence against Edward J. Ivory in a dynamite conspiracy case pending trial.
Cornelius N Bliss returns from a Western trip and a Cleveland meeting with President-elect McKinley. Asked whether he was offered and accepted the Navy portfolio he refuses to reveal details, saying only that their talk covered various matters and was very pleasant.
An Ohio congressman announced that Major Charles William Frederic Dick of Akron will be the private secretary to President McKinley. Dick has twice chaired the Ohio Republican State Committee and served as secretary of the national committee at Chicago.
Albany January 6 The New York Legislature convened in regular session with J M BE OGrady Rochester named Assembly speaker by 112 to 34 over D Finn and Republican caucus nominees chosen in the Senate. Governor Frank S Black submitted his message focusing entirely on state affairs.
General W M Osborne arrived in the city and was seen at his hotel. He disclaimed knowledge of McKinley’s cabinet as he visited Washington, with no further details released about his purpose or affiliations.
ST PAUL Jan 6 Governor David M Clough began a second term with his inauguration and delivered the biennial message to a joint session of the two houses.
Dayton Ohio reports Police Sergeant A M Keller seriously injured at the Perrine Block fire Second and Jefferson streets. A ladder with Fireman William Horner thirty feet above slipped causing both to fall striking Keller on the head. Keller unconscious taken to hospital with brain concussion and grim prognosis.
Reverend O. E. Palmer of Park Christian Church New Albany says he was in a Louisville saloon at the time in question but did not drink. He cites a sermon in which he described studying saloon crimes and testing methods to expose them and urged Christians to oppose the saloon.
Frankfort Kentucky January 6 Zack Moreland the alleged counterfeiter in a case spanning nearly three years was acquitted in federal court today.
Washington ministers oppose Sunday street cry ban and back newsboys. The District Commissioners forbade crying papers on Sundays, provoking a mass meeting Thursday evening to seek revocation of the order and support from church leaders.
James McCue who confessed to killing Richard Vincent yesterday waived examination and was bound over to the adjury. He refused to eat or drink and claimed people intend to poison him.
Special Dispatch reports Frankfort January 6 Governor Bradley pardons Henry Co Strother who had been sentenced to the penitentiary for a year and a half for bigamy.
In Sistersville West Virginia a Fisher Oil boiler explosion kills Sam Bigler boss and William Austin driller both from Mata marae and Warren respectively. Two others James Nolan and Charles Hinkle are injured with Nolan possibly dying. Cause unknown.
Special Dispatch to Commercial Tribune. At South Portsmouth this morning Mrs. Sarah Sucaringen an elderly resident was assaulted by John Thomas and his son Albert in a neighborhood quarrel. Mrs. Sucaringen died from a fractured skull sustained in the attack.
Washington January 6 reports a planned Canton visit by Senator Sherman fueling talk that the President elect has chosen Sherman for secretary of state and Allison for secretary of the treasury. Sherman declined to comment on the speculation.
President elect McKinley returned to Cleveland with General Felix Angus amid reports he invited Mr. Allison to Canton to offer the Secretary of State post. The key question remains whether Allison accepted the offer, a matter known only to the participants and a few confidants.
A Toronto dispatch reports the Patriotic Vigilance Committee distributing a circular across Canada alleging a months long conspiracy to overthrow royal authority and annex Canada to the United States. The note accuses a covert aim to undermine the Roman Catholic Church and Protestant liberty.
Covington Ohio a seventeen year old pleaded guilty today to forging his employer’s name on a six dollar check. The incident occurred in Bradford Junction Ohio as the case was brought before local authorities.

Mrs Lease's home in Wichita Kansas was sold today at a sheriff's sale for 600 dollars. The house cost about 3,000 dollars. The buyer was J Marsh an Eastern mortgagee.
