Three Central Ohio traction firms passed to receivers with consent in U S Circuit Court Judge Thompson presiding. The Central Market Street Railway Columbus the Dayton Springfield Urbana and Columbus London and Springfield lines fall under receivers Jacob G Schmidlapp and Myron H Wilson. suits by General Electric and Horace Power sought judgments on several million dollars with secured bonds. The Appleyard system spans Ohio from Columbus to Springfield with bonds totaling about 1.5 million and mortgage-covered property.
Special Dispatch to Commercial Tribune reports Nan Patterson’s attorney seeking bail and a writ to compel her appearance. District Attorney Jerome intends to retry Patterson, opposing bail, citing a hung jury as reason to pursue new proceedings. Levy says trial could be months away with bondsmen ready.

Special Dispatch from Cleveland reports Dr Leroy S Chadwick's bail bond for criminal court appearance was renewed at 5000 with Virgil P Kline as security. Kline from Kline Talles Goff will defend Chadwick. Chadwick sought a private visit with his wife, but Marshal Chandler required an officer present for permission.
Fire destroyed the log home of Frank Noweski a Polish miner in Morris Run Pennsylvania. The entire family of ten perished or were smothered except the 13 year old eldest son who escaped after waking to smell of smoke. Bodies lay amid the ashes. The boy woke early and escaped from the blaze.
A boiler blast on the towboat Defender near Huntington West Virginia at the Ohio River wharf killed eighteen and left many injured in a massive blaze that spread to twenty barges. Rescue crews searched wreckage as Captain James Woodruff survived with nonfatal injuries.
Chicago January 5 Theodore Thomas conductor of the Chicago Orchestra is near death after a relapse. Physicians say the crisis will occur in the morning and he may not survive many hours.
The Missouri Kansas & Texas Passenger Train No. 5 known as the flyer derailed a mile east of Rocheport Missouri. The engine baggage car and two coaches overturned and a baggage car burned. Five people were injured and Train Collector Loebel of St. Louis was the most seriously hurt.
At Ft Hamilton early today four prisoners escaped during a stampede of officers horses. One was recaptured, three are believed to have perished in the harbor ice. The recaptured man is Paul Berg, captured in Manhattan by a fort detail.
In Berlin the Empress’s music room suffered a fire sparked by a defective chimney. Her Majesty, Little Princes Joachim and Oscar were present as servants extinguished the flames before city firemen arrived. The Emperor ordered a special report on the incident.

English actress Mrs. Pat Campbell fractured a kneecap after a fall while entering a carriage in Philadelphia.
