Upon release Filer received 5000 dollars in cash and a large block of stock from the company selling his machine.
In Morrow County Ohio a petition filed in Common Pleas seeks to enjoin Andrew J. Tenant from attending or engaging in public worship at the United Brethren Church of Andrews. Attorney L K Powell filed the suit citing Tenant's fervent methods as causing disturbances in the hamlet east of Mt. Gilead.
Newport Rhode Island January 2 A society figure laments Watterson’s renewed attack on Newport’s “four hundred” and warns the fashionable summer resort could suffer. Another Newport observer concedes some points but says the writings harm the city, noting estates are selling for far less than assessed taxes.
The American ship St David drifts in the North Pacific in ballast, dismasted and short of provisions. The Japanese liner America Maru, recently arriving from the Orient, reported the St David off the Japanese coast. Captain Going sent provisions ashore and evacuated one seaman, John Johnson of Los Angeles.
