London December 31 James Bryce formerly British Ambassador at Washington is named Viscount in the New Year honors list. Four politicians receive peerages including Sir Rufus Isaacs former Attorney General and Lord Chief Justice Alexander Ure Lord President of the Scottish Court of Session Sir Charles Cripps MP for Buckinghamshire and Sir Harold Harmsworth brother of Lord Northcliffe.
A joint Italian and native force defeated Arab fighters near Murzuk, Fezzan, after five hours of combat. Arab leader Mohammed Ben Abdallah and several notables were killed. Italian casualties were eighteen killed and seventy seven wounded.

Mrs Annie Rose sued Dr Henry Rosinoff of Hoboken for 500 damages in the Hoboken District Court claiming the dentist aged her appearance by twenty years after bridge work and tooth extraction. She said she would not wear a denture as it falls out while eating or talking. The trial adjourned to next week.
Washington reports that 767 banks across 45 states signaled intent to join the new currency system. National banks account for about 695 applications with roughly 250 million capital, plus 49 state banks and 23 trust companies. Mexican authorities arrested two men in a suburban Campo Florido house thwarting an alleged plot to kill Provisional President Huerta during the New Year. The arrests were announced today in Mexico City.
President Wilson's personal representative John Lind travels aboard the scout cruiser Chester speeding toward Ship Island. Special Dispatch reports from Hermosalo Sonora dated December 31 say internal clashes erupted among the Guaymas federal garrison. Heavy gunfire was heard near Empalme with no insurgent attack in range. Desertions to the rebel side have been ongoing for several days.
