In St Louis on February 25 the February grand jury indicted Edward Butler known as the democratic boss on attempted bribery tied to the garbage bill. A contract showed Butler promised to secure favorable legislation for a fee of 45000 plus a share of profits. 77000 in profits were said to have gone to him, totaling 122000. A bench warrant will be issued and Butler will answer in Criminal Court.
New York February 25 Mrs Anna Hart died of consumption at a friend's home in New York City. Born Annie Jones in Knoxville she journeyed via St Louis and Louisville to New York where she met William Schreiber a bank clerk who had stolen 128000 from his Elizabethport bank. Her life linked with conquests and evasions before her death.
A Boer delegation led by Kr De Bruyn arrives in New York aboard the Rotterdam from Rotterdam and Boulogne. The party will stay several days before continuing to Baltimore and Washington for official engagements.
