A special dispatch from Frankfort reports Governor Taylor remaining firm against signing or countering the Louisville compromise. Republican leaders and Democratic emissaries clash over rights and repeal of the Goebel election law as hours of tense talks continue with deputies and state officials urging a deal.
In Frankfort Kentucky Silas Jones, arrested at dawn, partially confesses. He says he knows nothing himself but points to Harlan Whittaker, captured fleeing the Executive Building, as holding much information. Investigators expect Jones to yield more about the Richmond Madison County area.
The governor, resting at home with his family, grew optimistic after a tense day as Democrats in Louisville pressed for an immediate decision. Delegates including Judge Barr Attorney Fairleigh and General Lindsey urged a signature to the agreement but failed to sway him, leaving leaders unsure and some fearing the ultimatum may prevail.
Kentucky turmoil escalates as Governor Taylor asks warrants be issued to arrest House members and place them in Sergeant at Arms custody. Lieutenant Governor Marshall plans to rush to the capital on the early morning train as warrants for absent senators are prepared awaiting sign off.
A woman tells Col. Roger Williams she saw a Goebel shot and provides valuable testimony about the assassins.

Cincinnati boss George Barnsdale Cox pressed national leaders from Ohio to push the Cincinnati ripper through. He clashed with Hanna and Dick over votes, while Speaker Reynolds received Hanna telegrams but McKinnon did not go to Washington. Herrmann warned Cox that the ripper bill remains weak.
Hezekiah Stites, a 70 year old bachelor living alone on his farm two miles west of Or egonia Oregon, was found murdered in his blood splattered bachelor room. Wounds on head and arms suggest blunt instruments and robbery was the motive as money previously in the home is missing. No clue to the attackers was found.
Shelbyville Indiana February 9 Andrew Hensley the grandeuror charged with bribery claims demands a retraction from the Ray sisters owners of the Shelby Democrat. Commissioner William Amos offers his resignation to Auditor Oltman alleging he cannot obtain a fair trial and that venue changes are blocked by misrepresentations and vilifications.
Special cable from London reports General Buller pulling back south of the Tugela River eight miles from his crossing point. The move, whether a battle retreat or reconnaissance, aims to distract Boers from Modder River and Colesberg areas. Roberts and Kitchener reportedly withhold details as Methuen abandons MacDonald position amid front-line confusion.
A mob of about 1,200 miners halted sugar cane harvesting in Martinique as troops moved to quell unrest. An infantry post was attacked and nine were killed with fourteen wounded. Two incendiary fires struck plantations in Le Francoise.
The Surrogate's Court debated whether a 5 million dollar trust created by William H. Vanderbilt, father of the late Cornelius Vanderbilt, is subject to inheritance tax. Surrogate Fitzgerald reserved decision after arguments by Henry B. Anderson for the heirs. The trust, with Cornelius Vanderbilt as trustee, could be allocated to his children as directed by the will.
The Summit County Fish and Game Protective and Propagation Society calls a meeting of Ohio sportsmen to advocate new and more efficient game laws. The gathering will occur in the Fish and Game Commissioners office in Columbus on February 26, with each county to send five delegates.
In Frankfort Kentucky the late Senator William Goebel will rest in a chapel crypt until the family picks a final burial place. Arthur and Justus Goebel oppose the initial lot with its open grave and lavish floral tribute. A southwest corner site overlooking the Kentucky River and Capitol is under consideration. Justus Goebel said no burial date has been set.
Jonathan Emerick of Wapakoneta Ohio is a grandnephew and heir of John Nicholas Emerick who died years ago leaving a vast estate. The German Government holds the estate in trust and heirs are advertised for. Each heir stands to receive about 10 million dollars tied to a shipping venture with John Jacob Astor.
Mrs Daniel Manning president general and Mrs Senator Frye addressed the House Public Buildings Committee in support of a national building for the Daughters of the Revolution to be provided a government site. The project was described as already in hand with an estimated cost of 250 000 dollars.
London Kentucky February 10 1925 Senate Sergeant at Arms Crest and House Sergeant at Arms Crest and Howard Smith left on the northbound train armed with warrants for absent Democratic members. They planned warrants for absent senators and would go wherever needed with no tickets or statement of destination. A hint was dropped that developments would be heard tomorrow.
Oltman filed his acceptance while James L. Cherry's resignation is expected hourly. The Auditor and remaining Commissioners must appoint a successor. Amos faces trial at a special term starting next Monday before Judge L. H. Stanford in Liberty Indiana, with a thirty man venue. His resignation drops accusation charges against William Amos.
The Kentucky Trotting Horse Breeders grounds will host a state Elks fair August 12 for one week with trotting races under National Association rules. Last year’s event drew the largest Elks fair in the state since 1891 and 1892. Officers include S. T. Harbison president and E W Shanklin secretary with Mike Bowerman and W F Warren as vice presidents and treasurer.
A British telegram portrays the fight at Vaalkrantz as a full engagement with Boer guns outranging those of the British. It suggests General Buller would have pressed forward if possible and urges restraint until full facts emerge. Only one British casualty is reported.
London reports the Boer claim that General Buller failed once more as British censorship at Aden passes the statement. In Parliament Mr. Balfour says Buller is not pressing his advance while Churchill wires that Vaal Krantz was impracticable for guns needed for a further push. The telegram ends with Buller set to return tonight.
