A catastrophic fire damp explosion wrecks a Princeton Indiana coal mine. Seven corpses recovered while seven workers are wounded and three remain missing. two explosions had occurred earlier. Rescue and recovery operations unfold as authorities investigate causes.
In Princeton Indiana the Maul coal mine explosion at 3:30 PM kills at least ten men and injures seven others. Rescue crews recover several bodies as two more men are rescued alive but badly burned. The incomplete air shaft and accumulated gas are blamed for the disaster.

He is in critical condition and the police have no suspects. Lung was the town's only Chinese resident and was believed to have hidden savings in the laundry.
Reid Young, a local farmer, was found dead in a public road near Hinton today. Authorities suspect heart disease as the cause of death based on initial observations.

Visitors P B Laird of New York and F G Cross of Cincinnati call and are warmly received For a moment they converse with the President-elect.

In Buena Vista Ohio on December 26 Sammy Kerr aged 16 discharged a revolver by accident. The bullet pierced his left palm and struck another boy in the abdomen. The wound is not considered dangerous as the ball had spent its force.
Special Dispatch reports that charges against Captain Chapman for raiding Sherry’s guests at Mr Seeley’s dinner appear unlikely to proceed. Guests, including Sherry, were asked to testify at Chief Conlin’s office but many are unavailable due to prior engagements. Louis Sherry sent a note to Chief Conlin saying he would not affidavitz against Chapman.
In New York on December 26, thieves stole mail bags at a city depot and boarded an outgoing steamer. Envelopes with large sums were tossed into the bay near Coney Island. only the letters were recovered, with the money missing. Investigators say the loss runs to many thousands of dollars as Post Office inspectors take up the case.
Margaret Deer aged 75 died of starvation at the Widows' Protestant Home in Allegheny. Though food was available she refused to eat after choosing to work for meals. Inmate for ten years, she starved as pride kept her from accepting sustenance.
In a general fight six miles north of Mount Vernon Kentucky today Armo Rowland and Jack Rigsby were killed and Greeley Lear was fatally shot Harry Jones and other men were involved as the quarrel turned to renewed violence resulting in deaths and injuries.
