Fire destroys two factories on Pearl Street
A major blaze at the four story Pearl Street complex damaged National Label and United States Paper Goods companies. Damage from the fire and water is estimated at about 30,000 to 40,000 dollars, mostly insured, with a 20,000 dollar loss on U S Paper Goods inventory. The fire, started possibly by crossed wires, drew crews from the west Pearl Street playground area. Firemen fought the blaze with water towers and multiple hose lines as bystanders were drenched by a bursting hose. Police investigated the shooting sounds heard during the incident. The U S Paper Goods Company plans to resume production Thursday as crews work to secure the site.

Milwaukee Nurse Shot and Sister Dies in Insane Attack
In Milwaukee on December 24 1924 nurse Sister Theresa at St Marys Hospital was shot and killed by Gustav Wirth 32 who authorities say is insane after four shots struck the nurse. Wirth fled but was chased and captured then held at the police station. He had undergone an operation at the hospital about a year prior and showed insanity then. Sister Superior admitted him when he arrived seeking another visit.

William Pateans, a former waiter at Horn and Hardart on Ninth and Filbert, entered today after being refused a job and shot manager Cc Witcher and head waiter Roseman. Both were hospitalized in serious condition. Pateans fired at the cashier, missed, then tried to shoot himself but the gun failed. About fifty diners helped subdue him and police took him away. The incident caused major excitement in the central shopping district.

Train Wreck After Gale Kills One in Colorado
A Colorado & Southern train left Denver at 10 am and was blown off the track near Marshall, ten miles south of Boulder. Six passengers were seriously injured and one, J. C. Garrett, died.
