Little Laurine, a five year old rescued from hypnotic healer Dr A Elmer and Nora Shields, will move to Cincinnati to live with Ed Anthony and his wife. The Anthony couple, childless, will adopt Laurine, described as bright and bonded to her new father.
In Chicago a Roentgen ray photograph of a skull with an imbedded bullet was used as testimony in Justice Kehoe's Court. Frank Dugan of 283 Park Avenue faced an assault with intent to kill charge by Thos Taylor. City prosecutor Ingram presented W. C. Fuchs who showed the X ray showing the bullet near the left temple after the shooting.
Special Dispatch reports in Louisville that ex president Speckert of the defunct German American Title Company was arrested at his father's home without incident. He was excited by the shooting of his brother in law but claimed self defense as he had been praying when seized. He appeared in court but the preliminary trial was postponed to next Wednesday.
The St. Louis and Chicago express on the Chicago and Alton Railroad was robbed at Blue Cut near Independence, about fifteen miles from Kansas City. Bandits cut the locomotive and express car from the train, the same spot used in a prior robbery less than two months ago. A sheriff's posse has departed Independence for the scene.
Chicago report states Mary Dawson McCaffery was declared by a jury in Judge Dunne's court to be the legal wife of John McCaffery at his 1894 death. The ruling awards her a share of the approximately one million dollar estate.
Mrs Margaret Madison was granted a divorce in Brooklyn Supreme Court from Ambrose G Madison grand nephew of former President Madison. The divorce cited excessive cruelty and the trial revealed he had called his wife a slave.
La Grange Ind Dec 23 The Brotherhood of the Co operative Commonwealth is being established in Indiana and Michigan This new movement aims to organize workingmen into cooperative colonies through regular monthly contributions to raise funds for several colonies annually.
Nelson Morris, millionaire packer, barely escaped being gored when a Texas steer charged in a Chicago stockyards pen. J C Bohart of Bohart Commission Company was badly injured, being thrown into a feed trough and dislocated a shoulder with severe cuts to head and neck.
The council approved a curfew law requiring all children sixteen and under to be off the streets by 8 p m from October to April and by 9 p m from April to October with a fine not exceeding ten dollars.

In Mayfield Kentucky on December 23 the race conflict subsides after a mass meeting of white and colored residents yields an understanding for peace. Thirty extra policemen patrol the streets. a colored man William Suet was found shot last night by armed whites. Rumors of a vengeance mob circulated from Paducah and nearby towns, but authorities expect no further trouble.

In Elkton Maryland on December 23 James Brown a Black youth and others were snowballing near the house of William Montgomery also Black. A shot from Montgomery’s shotgun struck Brown in the head and he died shortly after. Several others were arrested as police investigate the incident.
Marcus Goldsmith, 61, was found dead sitting up in his hospital room today. He had been brought to the hospital from 279 West Michigan Street after four weeks of heart trouble that kept him from lying in bed. He formerly worked as a merchant in Indianapolis.
New York reports a trusted Croker ally says he will lead Tammany Hall in the coming municipal campaign and steer the organization from England after March. Croker plans to return in weeks to supervise the effort for Greater New York’s first election victory.
In Manchester Ohio on December 23 a tramp named Huron Sobers admitted killing Brakeman Nelson Schlagel at Galion on December 10 during an attempt to eject a band. A reward of 1000 dollars was posted for Sobers arrest.
In Warsaw Kentucky a horse frightened by a Christmas bundle fell from Larkin Ryle’s buggy. Ryle steered into Captain J H McDaniels yard. Mrs Ryle was thrown clear, Ryle died an hour later. his wife seriously injured and their child unharmed.
Four masked men entered the home of Mr and Mrs Geo Tweedy three miles south of Conneaut Ohio early this morning binding gagging and ransacking the house. They took $14 belonging to the church and an old watch which they later returned and left the home. Mrs Tweedy received the watch as a Christmas present. An armed posse searches the surrounding country for clues.
New York Supreme Court rules certain trusts under the late Samuel J Tilden invalid. Executors sought construction of will provisions. Court of Appeals had declared residuary trust illegal. Grandchildren and heirs receive specified principal sums. trustees blamed for misinvestments and the plan to fund libraries in New Lebanon and Yonkers collapsed.
W E Blackidge, a noted real estate figure in Kokomo Indiana, was swindled out of 1700 by a con artist claiming to be A W Sawyer of Nottingham. The scam involved a forged mortgage on Samuel Bergler’s farm and a seal attributed to Squire Stiffer. Bergler declared the mortgage a forgery.
In the Eleventh District Court Wm. A. Stadelman sued broker E. Mortimer Pine for 182 borrowed dollars. The loan was in poker chips during a game at the Holland Club last August to cover bills of other players. Judge O. Gorman ruled the debt legal and awarded full judgment to the plaintiff.
In Lawrenceburg Kentucky yesterday and tonight the mob destroyed tollgates and burned a tollhouse at the McMichael gate on the Harrodsburg road. Keepers Thomas Mc Michael and sisters reside nearby and could have fired on the raiders. The mob, reportedly from the southwestern county, chose bright moons to raid as law enforcement vows action.
Springfield Ky December 23 The toll house on the Springfield and Perryville turnpike near this town was set on fire last night and burned to the ground. Free turnpikers had raided the gates earlier, and no tolls have been collected since. Keeper Wise moved his family from the house yesterday, and raiders are believed to have burned it to prevent use as a tollhouse. There is not a single tollgate left in the county.
In Lexington Kentucky Corporal Lewis Johnson of the State Guard confronted Private Grinstead in a hotel lobby over a petition seeking the Captain's removal. Grinstead denied the accusation and Johnson called him a liar. Grinstead drew a heavy pistol and struck the corporal, but bystanders ended the fight.
Chicago reports Harry L. Bleecker son in law of ex County Treasurer William T. Johnson was arrested on December 23 charged with embezzling 24000 from his mother in law estate while acting as estate manager.
In Middlesboro Kentucky on December 23 a deadly fight erupted at a dance held at David Williams home in Letcher County resulting in fatalities and rivals vowing revenge according to local reports.
Chicago reports that E S Dreyer and Robert Berger of Dreyer & Co gave themselves up after arrest warrants issued for alleged insolvent deposits. Director Page describes how loans were pushed by a finance committee aided by Calumet Electric Railway ties. Hammond named scapegoat as bank failure linked to insiders who admired Calumet Securities and South Chicago City Railway deals.

Chicago December 23 Captain Schneider president of the National Bank of Illinois lives at 2000 Michigan avenue. He is 73 and in fragile health. He declined to comment and spoke by telephone with bank officials about the distressing financial period. He noted the bank aims to pay depositors in full as soon as possible. It was also stated that four sons-in-law of the president borrowed 170000 from the bank.
The Sheriff attached property in New York City totaling 29 361 dollars against the Bank of Minnesota of St Paul which failed yesterday.
On the application of Walter F. McEntire Judge Valliant issued a summons returnable Saturday against the Southern Saving Fund and Loan Association to answer a bill seeking dissolution and for authority for State Treasurer Stevens to assume control of the company.
West Superior Wisconsin reports the Bank of West Superior with 50 000 capital and surplus suspends operations due to the failures of the Bank of Minnesota and the Bank of Illinois. Officials cite the Minnesota bank as the primary cause and say a resumption and depositors’ payout are planned.
In Montpelier Indiana at 7 15 a m an Empire Glycerin Company magazine containing several hundred quarts of nitroglycerin exploded blowing away the building and killing Harry Woods and George Hicock. The shock shattered windows and crockery across town and was felt up to fifty miles away as people mistook it for an earthquake.
In Chillicothe Ohio Minnie Ritter 17 was killed when her 13 year old brother Ralph assembled parts of an empty revolver found a cartridge and fired. The ball struck the left neck severing the carotid artery and spine, death instant. The boy was distraught.
Hannibal Missouri reports the death of former congressman W H Hatch at 9 o clock after a long illness including Brights disease. The death ends his long career in public service and political life.
The infant of Allan Greer, a Black man, was found in Clark's River four miles from Paducah. The drowning of Green and Dollie and Hattie Owens occurred when they tried to cross the river in a dugout.
