Michael Beyer, once a switch cleaner on an electric railroad, learned from an aunt in Posen Prussia that he is among ten heirs to an estate valued at 20 million dollars. The notice arrived by letter on December 16 in Michigan City, Indiana, per Associated Press.

A specialist in municipal taxes and constitutional law, he had argued more cases before the Ohio Supreme Court and secured more judgments in his favor than any other attorney.
State oil inspector William H. Phipps and the attorney general's department secured 2500 from Ohio companies for back Naptha inspection fees. Firms including Globe Oil and Canfield Oil of Cleveland D P and S P Day of Cleveland F A Gerond of Cleveland Beaver Refining of Marietta and Indian Refining of Cincinnati pledged payments. National Refining of Cleveland sent notice that its check would follow despite protests the inspector’s term was fair.

In Marietta Ohio on December 16 Clara Heining 19 burned to death and her sister Mrs Henry Heining likely fatally burned while trying to rescue her after their clothing caught fire at an open grate, according to Associated Press.
December 17 report states Leopold II, king of the Belgians, died at 2 85 o clock this morning. His aged body could not withstand the strain and the collapse came suddenly while doctors held hope for recovery. The final illness followed a prolonged weakening.
