Reports state a daring flight from Spain toward the South American coast with plans to reach the Cape Verde Islands first. Weather broadcasts indicate favorable conditions for the ocean crossing. The Uruguayan pilot intended to depart from the African coast near Cape Blanco toward Pernambuco after midnight.
New York December 15 The Eighty Sixes the first national organization of licensed women pilots in America forms at the home of Mrs George Kunz. Amelia Earhart Ruth Elder and Viola Gentry among members. HQ in New York. Objectives promote fellowship encourage flying and create opportunities in commercial aviation. Members include top aviatrices who oppose sex bias in pay and status. Sectional chairmen named for West Coast Middle West New England Pennsylvania Ohio Michigan Southeast and Texas.
Maj. Tadeo Larre-Borges Uruguayan and Lieut Chalies French aviators began a nonstop attempt from Seville to Montevideo via Africa and the Atlantic. They carried 1,400 gallons of fuel in a Breguet biplane with radio, aiming for Natal Brazil then Montevideo. Previous cross Atlantic feats are cited as context.
Maj Tadeo Larre-Borges and Lieut Charles, starting from Paris, pursue a trans Atlantic flight to Montevideo Uruguay. They are veterans of long distance hops with a prior February 1927 attempt that began in Europe.
Seattle reports a noted surge of volcanic activity along the Alaska peninsula with flames and ash clouds rising hundreds of feet. Newport police shut down a moonshine operation at 119 West Southgate alley described as a moonshine fountain. A fifty gallon barrel on the second floor fed through a copper pipe to the first floor with a table and pan, a bored hole, and a flow control valve. The proprietor J. W. Tucker alias River George was charged with possessing liquor and operating a disorderly house.
In New York on December 15, five gunmen robbed the General Social Club on East Fifth Street, taking $600 and $400 in jewelry from fourteen patrons. George Lobretto, 42, collapsed and died of fright during the hold up, later identified by his brother James.
Three men robbed an oil station at Fourteenth and Sycamore, forcing attendant Harry Nelson of 939 State Avenue into a rear room. They fled in a car with the cash register containing about $40, after two suspects entered with pistols and withdraw.
About fifty pupils from a Washington school sang Christmas carols for President Hoover and Mrs. Hoover in the White House. The children, instructed by their teachers, requested to perform and were granted entry to the East Room where they performed after the Hoovers descended from their private rooms on the second floor.
In Lynn Massachusetts the St Stephen's Church weekly calendar urged for four more baptisms to beat last year's record. After services, the rector learned three babies would be baptized next Sunday and one on Christmas Day, bringing total to four more than the year before.

Four detectives under Capt Shoemaker were arrested in Chicago on robbery and kidnapping charges. They allegedly abducted jewelry salesman Morris Meyers, deprived him of wrist watches and cash, and dumped him near the stock yards station. Names: Joseph Casey Grover Mullaney Edward P O Malley Michael Cohen. Deputy Commissioner Stege relieved them of stars and uniforms.
A 15 year old Cincinnati boy Cleo Jackson died from a bullet in Norwood after a revolver fired during a late night card game. Host George Williams 18 held in Norwood Jail with Raymond Williams and Vernon Warfolk present. Coroner notes the bullet grazed arm before striking the heart and suggests self defense by shielding.
Pope Pius XI will create six new cardinals in a secret consistory tomorrow morning elevating Sacred College to sixty three of seventy. The list features Emanuele Cerejeira archbishop of Lisbon the youngest at 50 and Luigi Lavitrano archbishop of Palermo with others including Carlo Minoretti archbishop of Genoa.
Poindexter Kegler, 39, at 615 Freeman avenue, shot himself after a quarrel with his wife Ida. Earlier, he had suffered a death in the family and a failed attempt to obtain his brother’s workhouse release, while losing $4 and a gold watch to a fake bondsman. Ida, waking him late for work, cried as she found him dead.
Benton Harbor Michigan December 15 Frederick Dane a 40 year old Chicago merchant previously deemed wealthy is being sought as a murderer and bank robber with a $10000 reward. After a minor traffic clash Dane killed St Joseph patrolman Charles Skelly and fled in a stolen car. Police found machine guns ammunition rifles a sawed off shotgun and shells plus $319850 in bank securities at his home. Authorities believe he shot to avoid fingerprinting and note he used the alias Herbert Church and owned Lakeshore property and gas stations in Gary Indiana.
A Sunday warehouse fire in the West End left five firemen injured as flames swept through a storage building. Fire officials say the blaze caused extensive damage and investigation is underway to determine the cause and any structural hazards.
Washington December 15 Congress prepares to sign a relief measure reducing next year’s income tax rates for individuals and corporations by one percentage point. The plan lowers the 4 14 percent bracket to 4 percent for under 4000 and 2 percent for 4000 to 8000, with over 8000 taxed at 4 percent. Senate and House approvals followed Democratic backing, with Vice President Curtis and Speaker Longworth set to sign.

An early morning attempt to rob the Frank Herschede Jewelry Store at 118 East Fourth Street ended when passersby noticed a large sedan with seven men fleeing. Police found a circular hole in a show window but could not confirm any item was removed. the window held no articles of notable value.
