Night Operator Greer of the Lake Erie & Western office at Bluffton shot his friend Stephen Miller last night, believing him to be a safe robber. Greer fired through a window with a .44 caliber revolver. the bullet lodged in Miller’s left breast. The Bluffton office had been attacked by robbers weeks earlier and Greer was previously shot.
Columbus Ohio December 14 reports that General Prisoner George Leroy and Prisoner Wright escaped from United States Barracks around 11:30 Saturday. Leroy was shot in the right shoulder and arm by Private Barlow of Company D Twenty-ninth Infantry. Wright fled into railroad yards and the guard is ordered to shoot him on sight while pursuit continues.
Ora Strine killed his bride of three weeks by cutting her throat then slashed his own throat. The couple had married three weeks earlier at Goshen with relatives present. Strine was captured in Elkhart after his escape attempt failed and witnesses noted jealousy sparked by a letter from a former lover.
In Springfield Ohio Blessed Hope society members attended a social led by Rev. M. Brodie. Women told how they earned a dollar for church use with one account of washing a husband’s feet nightly for a week, the task described as hard at first but soon easy, and she won the prize.

It is said to be decided that President Roosevelt will not accept Mr Andrew Carnegie's offer of 10,000,000 bonds of the United States Steel Corporation for founding a higher education institution in this city. The government hold period on the bonds is especially objectionable.
Andrew Carnegie stated that the Washington matter will be resolved, claiming he could sell bonds himself to raise the $10,000,000 gift for a national university. He emphasized there would be no trouble obtaining the funds.
A cloudburst in the Spring City area caused Piney River to rise three to five feet above previous records. The flood washed away or damaged structures and forced many residents from their homes, with trains disrupted as water and debris flowed through the area. Local officials report ongoing rising water and continuing impact into the morning.
