Marine Officer Dies by Suicide in Hotel Room
Samuel W. McEwan a 38 year old Lieutenant Doctor with the U S Marine Corps Recruiting Station killed himself in a hotel room by cutting his throat with a razor while alone in front of a mirror. He had been divorced by Councilwoman Corrinne McEwan in April. A hotel maid discovered the body about 3 pm and Dr Grimes the hotel physician pronounced him dead. The coroner was not notified until late evening and the room was sealed pending investigation. The body was taken to the Jacobos undertaking establishment on Locust Street and Gilbert Avenue at the family’s request.

Four Navy sailors held after shipboard liquor stash found
Norfolk, Va. December 10 three noncommissioned officers and one mess attendant aboard the battleship Texas at the Norfolk Navy Yard were arrested and recommended for general court martial on charges of operating a still. Names listed include W. A. Barnes H. M. Wilkinson R. A. Cutlip and S. Venerable. The still was found on December 1 by Lt. A. L. Broughton and liquor was reported around those on duty. The Texas has been under alteration at the yard for months and the area is usually guarded by a petty officer.

James I Stephenson 50 a vice president of Guarantee Trust Company and Vernon Manor treasurer shot himself in his apartment at Vernon Manor. The coroner ruled death by own action.
